My tendency towards Amsteel is because it is very easy to splice, is readily available from multiple sources, and is very inexpensive per foot or in bulk.
Instead of splicing directly to the step, I am going to do a spliced eye in the amsteel. That way I can pack the stepps in without ropes and just girth hitch the amsteel on once I get to the tree.

I only have 3 steps, so at this point it is platform only. I will be sewing some straps on my sit drag to hang all 3 on, and hiking in without the ropes would be helpful in thick brush. Less to get caught.

Wild edge’s rope is stiffer making it easier to tie and untie. Amsteel is for the trained professionals, not the general public! Lol

Once you uncam it I don't find it hard at all.... ye's I've replaced lasty of mine to a steel, I probably accumalted 50+ steps over the years

I wonder if Andrew from WE would put new ropes on the older stepps? It might be cheaper than amstel, 8' per stick will be about 8 dollars per stick, not to include the time to splice them all, also you have to worry about amstel wear. I was thinking you could put something over it to help protect the amstel. Someone on here posted something from treestuff that was a tube to protect the rope from friction. I bet you could use some of that climbing webbing as well.

WE sells replacement ropes on their website, they come with a fid and the splicing is super easy, only took me a few minutes to do all 12.

Only 3, heck, I'd probably make a custom bag to carry them all right on my sitdrag, get that thread injector out!

Loving my WE stepps. Tried them as a platform today. Very nice!

Tree damage is not bad when you get it on the 1st try.

For what it’s worth I did stretch all the ropes by hand, some. Seems to have helped (probably in my head)

I recommend putting them on and leaving them on overnight to get a good stretch vs by hand

Yeah, no doubt. Just need to find a tree around my house. I’ve been using them at my club.

I need to talk to andrew eventually. I think a 6 stepp bag is ideal for a lot of guys here. I picked up a 5 stepp bag. It will work 90% of the time but 6 stepp would be take me to 100%

That pic you posted beside the dollar bill was really cool. Super compact and pretty much the same weight as aluminum spurs/pads. Are you only using them when you can't use spurs? Do you think you could ever get to a point where they'd be your #1?

No. They are a solid #3. Spurs, bolts, stepps in that order. #2 if we are talking exclusive run and gum freelance hunting. Spurs are king

Did you get the 8' ropes? I got a few 6' and a few 8', it can certainly feel like a lot of rope until you get onto a bigger tree, lol. I don't think it would be a problem to cut and melt, I would throw some tape on before you cut just to keep it all together. Good luck.

I only had a couple trees last year that 6’was too short. I very rarely wished for shorter ones. With the new knot method the aggravation with longer ropes is pretty much non existent.
