Wild Edge Stepp's

I need to talk to andrew eventually. I think a 6 stepp bag is ideal for a lot of guys here. I picked up a 5 stepp bag. It will work 90% of the time but 6 stepp would be take me to 100%

That would be money. I ordered Predator so if I like that better that would drop me to 5 steps max

Which WE Stepp climbing method have you decided on? I know you were doing the @redsquirrel tether method last season, are you gonna try kaider/swaider or something else?

How much of a difference is there between the old ropes from when Jim manufactured them to the new stepp ropes??

so I am going to test out a 3 step aider I picked up this spring. It's still sitting in the garage though LOL. I saw a link G2 posted a long time ago, and it seems to be a good middle point between red's webbing loop and the 5-6 step aider that I think bassboy is using. I just felt like an extra couple of loops would allow me to get more space between stepps. My other method this year will be bolts - BUT - I'm looking real hard at getting in on the Kiwi buy - with the National Forest now, they just shot up in priority - and they are legal where I am.

I recently picked up 3 for a platform and tried a variation on the aider climbing and I like it so far. I am going to use my descender to rappel after the climb as trying to use aider on the way down does not appeal to me. I bought a set when Jim first came out with them and didn't get along with them very well but recently have had an epiphany and get it! Great product and Andrew has taken the reigns and kept a great product going.

Awwww man, thats awesome, private land and tons of public where you can use spurs, man I'm jealous!

I just picked up some muddy pro's so I've got options now, I'm gonna make a one or two-step aider for the sticks, but I think WE stepps with kaider/swaider will be my go to, we'll see how it goes when I get healthy and can give all of this a try!!!

I can’t seem to get mine cammed over consistently. I have a set of the old ones from Jim, and the rope seems a hoot but finicky. I spent several hours with the steps and still had major problems with them just popping up after seeming to be secured. I’m hoping that an amsteel mid May help with the problem.

The one thing I haven’t done yet is stretching out the rope like it is brand new (since the stepps are several years old, and changed hands a couple times). I have decided to try that before giving up on the Stepp Ladder completely.

Have you made sure both sides of the rope goes under the standoff’s when going around the tree? I had trouble when I would accidentally have one going over.

Man this kind of post makes me nervous about WE stepps, they seem pretty solid to me, but I just got em and haven't even stretched out the ropes yet. I kinda hope it's @IkemanTX's fault and not the rope/stepps, lol

Yep. One problem is most trees around here have very deep/rough bark. I can’t get the Stepp to lift higher than the rope around the tree because the rope catches so badly on the bark. Another problem I’ll have is it will be dang near impossible to cam over it’s so tight, but will still be loose enough that the top will lean away from the tree as soon as I put weight on it.... kinda paradoxical.

Trust me, there’s a 99% chance it is my fault!

Also, they are a very old pair that may have never been used. And, I haven’t done the “stretch out” routine. I have heard it is best to tightly attach them to a medium size tree and leave them attached for a day or so, then again on a slightly larger tree, then again on one that BARELY leaves enough rope to tie the knot.

Oh man, that sounds rough, we need a WE veteran to chime in here, lol. If you can't lift the stepp once it's tied before cam'n over, could you wrap the rope, then lift a little before tying the knot, so you just have to cam over? Just working through this in my mind from a desk at work, lol
