Give it until at least 5 or 6 tries. I think that's enough to know if you're going to like them or not.
Im with Flingin on this...couldn't take it anymore so after work I drove to Mimbach Fleet and picked up a pair of Climbrites with alum pads. Got home and tried them on, and away we went. I guess Im pretty confident in myself as Im climbing around scaffolding and shoreing ALOT.Give it until at least 5 or 6 tries. I think that's enough to know if you're going to like them or not.
I didn't see on the web site what they weigh. Did you see that anywhere?http://www.bartlettman.com/KLEIN-TREE-CLIMBER-SET_p_752.html
I Haven't read many bad reviews on the Kliens; those reviews seemed mostly weight conscientious, leaning towards aluminum or very expensive carbon fiber.

Also curious how if I'd have to modify them. I know guys on here are adding straps and taking off the buckle belts. I don't really have the resources for making mods like this, or at least the know how.I didn't see on the web site what they weigh. Did you see that anywhere?

I promise you can do it. It's super easy by watching a video or two and can come in handy for other things too. The speedy stitcher costs less than $10 on amazon.
YouTube "speedy stitcher sewing awl".Ok. Sweet. I'm learning. Can you post a link to a video? I'm not sure what to search.

I ran a piece of pull up line through the rings on the buckles and it stopped the noise .The buckles are loud and cumbersome to attach when you're trying to be quiet and stealthy. It's a really simple mod. All you need is some nylon webbing and a few buckles. You can sew them by hand, with a machine, or take them to a sew shop. I did this before I learned to sew, and the shop sewed some webbing straps for like $10.
Used to watch this on Wide World of Sports when I was a kid. Crazy. This and rodeo guys are crazy. Why carry rapelling rope/gear when you can get down pretty fast without it?

How long is your rappelling rope, and how are you attaching it in a way to come down the tree? Also are your straps leather, or nylonI have the Climbrite spikes with the Climbrite ultralight aluminum pads that I modded with strap/buckle instead of the velcro. I love the spikes and they weight right at 4lbs for the set so carrying them isn't bad at all. I also rappel using 8mm rope and a BlackDiamond ATC Sport. I have 35' of paracord that is tied to the loop in the rope and when I'm on the ground a quick pull of the paracord and the rope comes right down. I wrap the paracord in a figure 8 then roll the 8mm rope up and it's small enough to fit in my pack. I used this setup all year and have no complaints at all.
