Climbing spikes

My rope is about 30' and it's too short lol. I am going with 40' my next one. I just run it around the tree and hook back into it with a carabiner but plan on using a screw link for more safety. Spur straps are nylon with plastic buckles.

So you have a small diameter line tied to biner that once on ground you pull and it brings the rope down? Other than feeling cool like Batman, is it worth the added weight when you could just climb down fairly easily?

Yep. Just paracord. And I find rappelling down 1000X easier than putting spikes on and climbing back down. I left my rappel rope in Ohio so the last several hunts this year I had to climb back down. It's not hard but putting them back on with heavy clothes is a little iffy lol. I feel like you could drop one pretty easy that way.

Is there a video showing how the rappel rope is attached so you can release it once you are on the ground? Or a diagram of how it works.

I was wondering the same thing

Someone had a pic of it earlier I think. Here is my set up. Green paracord pulls the loop of the rappel rope and it comes right down no problem even around limbs.

Is the XOP seat pad for your knees to rest on? Good idea. Sweet setup. I need to get this going for next year.

Yep didn't use knee pads once this year. I like the pad!

I'm trying to see how everything is put together in the photo. Can't quite see it all. Are you sitting in a Sit Drag?

Yep. I basically have two bridges. One is Amsteel spliced directly to the SD that I connect to my tether and the one in the pic is a shorter eye to eye I use for rappelling. I can hook up my rappel gear like the pic while still connected to my other bridge and tether. Once I have my weight transferred to the shorter bridge I unhook from my tether. I can take some more pics of it later for you!

That would be awesome. I'm just learning but I like the simplicity of what some of you guys are doing. I can see myself hunting from way more places next year.

Only way to fly keep em guessing where your gonna be has always been my motto. Spikes and saddle let you hunt anywhere and take them by surprise.

I already ordered spikes. Don't have a saddle figured out yet and ropes and everything. Still learning the ropes so to speak.

Are you making a single rap around the tree with your rappel line? How much rope do need to rappel from 20 ft?

Yes, single wrap. I don't think I could retrieve from the ground with a double wrap. If 20' is your normal hunting height 30' of rope after the loop tied in would be fine. I typically hunt 25-30' so I need around 40'. You always want a little extra!

Fling,is that a tied loop, in the end of the rappel line, where the carabineer is hooked ?
