Live from the tree 2017 version

State land sit tonight. A mile hike in. Had perfect wind for this location and where I thought deer would come from. Except they never came.

Well all except the one that busted me no sooner than my bow hit the ground when I was getting out of my stand.

Never heard it coming except when it was busting through brush after I spooked it and then when it proceeded to blow like crazy. Never did lay eyes on it, but it sounded like a doe. I’m getting very familiar with what it sounds like when does blow and wheeze.

Found a nice scrape and rub just outside the travel corridor I was hunting. I setup just inside it. Should have setup on the scrape.

And the little tree rat who hung out for - I kid you not - a half hour or more deciding if I was a threat or something else entirely.

Just had this guy and a larger buck bumping around a couple of does. This one got a pass. If the other would have gotten into range he would have been in danger.

Just had the same thing happen. E except he came into and out of range in 1 second. He was lightly grunting and chasing the 3 doe I had come in.

Yep I had a four point tailing does. Most of the normal scrapes are opened up. I have a few more hours to go until I have to be Mr. Mom for the rest of the day.

X2. Did have this near where I was set up with some scrapes. Found this spot last year but haven't quite figured it out yet. It has a TON of big buck sign, but I've seen people from the spot every time. This was my third sit, 2 last year and 1 this year now

Went in blind in the dark this morning on a place I’ve never stepped onto.
Studied for several hours and picked a spot on the map. Got into there and couldn’t get a tree that would hold me (scrub oak), so ground sit it was.

About 20 minutes after first light, I had a doe come in behind me, which was downwind. She hit my scent about 20 yards out and decided to bust directly at me.
She blew by at 5 yards or less.
I’ll even admit.. I kinda dodged her a bit. No shot opportunity.

This afternoon is in this dandy location....

Sounds like a dad-gum firing range out here.
Not how I wanted o spend 3 hours of my sit.

Only an hour and a half left out of my 7 hour sit drag sit. Getting close to magic hour!!!
This is the longest I have ever been in the sit drag, and I am really surprised I haven’t fighting comfort issues. If the Kestrel is as much more comfortable than the sit drag as y’all say, I’m going to have a hard time staying awake in the tree next year.

Well, it was worth sticking around. Had a young buck (2.5 or 3.5) come in to the pond I was sitting on before dark. It was cool to have him stick around within range for 10 or 15 minutes. It’s my first buck in range this season, which isn’t saying much... I only have 3 sits in now. He was too close to not making antler restrictions to take the shot. Has to be 13” wide inside spread. (Outside the ears)
If his main beam hadn’t broken off, he may have made it. He would have been an 8, but broke 2 off his right side.

Not quite live. No signal at the time. Was in the biggest mesquite tree I could find so my feet were only about 7 feet off the ground. Did have a little spike come in 10 feet behind me as I was changing out of my sweaty setup gloves. He stomped for several minutes before finally blowing out.

Had a choice.....open a beer and relax in my recliner on the patio or sit in my Kestrel 35 feet up in 75 degree heat. Guess you won't get a shot sitting at home ? That beer sure would taste good right now!!

@Scoutman and I are sitting about 150 yards apart on an oak ridge point that sticks out into thick flood plane scrub.
Hopefully I have something come out tonight, because this location doesn’t have antler restrictions..... if one shows, it’s a goner!
