Live from the tree!

Nice buck red! Can't wait to read the details. I told my buddy, we have to go to our #1 spot tomorrow b/c a guy who earlier said he didn't get in the stand until 8:30 killed a buck by early afternoon in Delaware, which is very similar Latitude.

I like the calendar period from Oct 26- Nov 4 for bucks that are "seeking". This years weather has been much better than last years when we had unseasonably warm conditions and minimal daytime movement

Yeah, last year was steamy here too. I wish I would have taken today off and set up camp to hunt this evening. But I have a history of mis-timing the rut by going early.

I will write it up in the morning, just got off daddy duty and about to pass out. Short version. In tree at 8:30, had a spike cruise by at 8:35. This guy was cruising at 10am and that's when I shot him. Gave him a couple hours because I didn't watch him fall over but it was a double lung and he didn't go far. I'm in north NJ.

Haha. I don't know why I wrote Delaware. I ain't smart and my memory is gone. But I swear I've seen you write Jersey 50 times in threads here. And I know it is Jersey b/c I've held my tongue on lots of PA jokes about NJ. I will read your post from my stand tomorrow.

I only have been hunting for a few years but I changed my rut Hunting rules based on a few things I heard from Grant Woods and Bill winke (their combined logic) - anytime between 10/24-11/15 (or closing day in PA) with a 10-20% drop from the previous day or consecutive cold days I take off from work 1-2 days at a time. I have the flexibility to take off last minute. Ideally that happens before Nov 7.

I tried it for the first time this year and it worked out.

Saw a bunch of turkeys today. It started raining so I came home. Will be back out tomorrow.

Missed a Fort Stewart, GA porker this evening. Hunted the river by kayak and missed an easy 30 yard shot at 90lb sow. No deer. Oh well!
