I do things quietly and try not to climb if deer are within 20 yards of my tree. I don't know what on earth you guys are doing to make so much noise.
Agreed. It's wicked quiet. I'm all in now that I'm getting more comfortable with it. Every good tree I hunt with sticks or spurs is now getting paracord. Quiet. No linemans belt dance around multiple limbs. And I could care less if someone needs to steal my paracord.I do things quietly and try not to climb if deer are within 20 yards of my tree. I'd just be more bothered if I got to a spot and my paracord was gone! It would just put a wrench in the hunt.Agreed. It's wicked quiet. I'm all in now that I'm getting more comfortable with it. There is always that chance. Same goes with any preset. I know I've had steps and sticks stolen in the past. I'm packing my rocket regardless. Also an aider or sling as a backup method, but I have a simple backup regardless of climbing methodI'd just be more bothered if I got to a spot and my paracord was gone! I have a couple 1000 yard spools of camo paracord. That is enough for about 100 trees. Spools were about $40 each. So I have 80 cents of gear that could be stolen in each set.I think someone, forget who was talking about using a sling shot, lead weights and 50lb braided line, leaving fishing string is a lot cheaper and wh o cares if it goes missing, although it could still wreck your hunt like Red was saying. I haven't tried this yet and I'm assuming you still wouldn't did it in the dark or on a sneak into the tree but I think it could work really well, I'm just not sure if you pull up the srt rope with the fish line or 550 then the srt line. I've also been using the 550 to pull up my bow.

Google "Camo Paracord 1000" and you should be able to find something close. At least 8 dollars cheaper. A lot of vendors around $46. If coyote or olive drab, looks like as low as $36.I've got one spool but it was about 54, where did you get one for 40?
I've only got a few trees setup Do you use a throw bag? Anyone use the sling shot? What's easiest?

I'm using the rocket bag and zing it for run and gun but I'm also setting paracord after climbing with spurs or sticks.
As for the stealing thing, one could also tie the paracord off the ground. Then use an aider climb and untie it. No different than removing tree steps / steps.

I didn't like the lifeguard it was a lot rougher on the decent and it didn't lock as well said:What rope are you using? I've used 9mm ultra tech (pictured) and 11mm bandit and have no problem descending smoothly or with lock up. One thing I like about the lifeguard is you can "lock it off " at hunting height like in the picture. Once I do that, I can unweight the lifeguard without it slipping or releasing. I couldn't do that with my grigri without tying knots or some other means to hold the rope. I think replacing the hand ascender with the ropeman is the best move regardless of what descender you use.

I like it. I use 1.75 mm zing it on a 10 or 12 oz rocket. It's pretty easy. Under brush can be a headache. And yes, you aren't going to run and gun at dark thirty. I have over a 100 perennial trees. I'm setting many with paracord. I keep zip lock bags with paracord pre-cut. Grab one every time I'm carrying the sticks or spurs. This looks like a good option. A little shinier than paracord but it should hold up well.Even cheaper than paracord is braided nylon. I bought a 3000' spool of 1.4mm, which is slightly thinner than the thinner throw lines available which are 1.75mm. So you need to be mindful not to cut into the wood or bark but I haven't gotten it stuck yet. If you do ever get throw line stuck or a rope not passing through a crotch right pull back on the rope side a foot or two and find a stick to wrap the throw line around a few times and use the stick as a handle so your hands dont slip or get cut. I think I paid $15 for 3000' spool, cant beat that!
I also preset multiple trees in one hunting spot partly for different winds but mostly so I can adapt to any new sign changes day of, or to suit my fancy that morning. It also serves as back up if I do accidentally cut a notch in a limb that I cant pull a rope through or if someone removes a line, which I have never had happen. If you tie(or wedge in bark) your string it wont catch your eye in the wind it'll move like a vine, anchored at top and bottom.
but yeah at $15 dollars for 3000' with an average 25' tie in height, that's 0.25 cent a per tree!
I'm old school. Petzl Rig most of time but also GriGri2, Petzl Ascension, Petzl Fixe micropulley, Petzl footpro, Petzl William Carabiner, and ISC Luke Oval Carabiner. My rig is two Ropeman and will try the carabiner pulley trick and an ATC descender

How do you not use the foot loop? And are you using the climbing rope as your tether too?View attachment 2732
The foot loop is in this picture but I no longer us it. Plain and simple, no noise.
It does take a little more upper body strength without the foot loop, but I just reach up and grab the ropeman and pull up with my left hand and pull the rope down with my right hand. It's really not that bad. and yes I'm using the climbing rope as my tether that way at the end of my hunt I just remove the ropeman and descend. I'm always connected. How do you not use the foot loop? And are you using the climbing rope as your tether too?
