SRT Guys?

Even cheaper than paracord is braided nylon. I bought a 3000' spool of 1.4mm, which is slightly thinner than the thinner throw lines available which are 1.75mm. So you need to be mindful not to cut into the wood or bark but I haven't gotten it stuck yet. If you do ever get throw line stuck or a rope not passing through a crotch right pull back on the rope side a foot or two and find a stick to wrap the throw line around a few times and use the stick as a handle so your hands dont slip or get cut. I think I paid $15 for 3000' spool, cant beat that!

I also preset multiple trees in one hunting spot partly for different winds but mostly so I can adapt to any new sign changes day of, or to suit my fancy that morning. It also serves as back up if I do accidentally cut a notch in a limb that I cant pull a rope through or if someone removes a line, which I have never had happen. If you tie(or wedge in bark) your string it wont catch your eye in the wind it'll move like a vine, anchored at top and bottom.

but yeah at $15 dollars for 3000' with an average 25' tie in height, that's 0.25 cent a per tree!

Where did you get that? Looks good!

I've got one spool but it was about 54, where did you get one for 40?

I've only got a few trees setup :( Do you use a throw bag? Anyone use the sling shot? What's easiest?

I use a slingshot with microcord and a 1/2 oz weight for on the go hunting. For presets i use a notch big shot, 16oz weaver bag and dynaglide throwline.

I use zing-it, mostly, for my actual throw balling and that braided nylon is what I leave in the tree. @donnieballgame the stick trick is just to help free stuck rope or throw balls just wrap the throw line around a stick that is perpendicular to the throw line, i guess you could use a hitch but wrapping it like your spooling a kite string is easy to get out afterward. Actually dont use a hitch the string will dig into the stick and you wont be able to get it out easy. Gives you a handle and saves your hands.

How high are you setting your picks? I usually didn't pull out the big shot until climbing well past hunting heights

I believe he's using a wrist rocket. At least that is what I've been playing with

My biggest issue with the sling shot is picking the right draw force from the sling shot. It's easy to send the weight too far.

I have had to throw 50' or so a couple times when that was the lowest limb and 45-50' is my limit.. That was a challenge, but I hand threw them. Then I climb up to where the canopy is most advantageous and throw a cam-over buckled strap around the tree locking the rope against the tree effectively lowering my tie in to 25' or whatever. I might then screw a tree step in that tree and put some paracord over it for later. May be more accurate with a slingshot, but I haven't needed one yet.

That's a heck of a toss. Wish I could have seen the smile on your face.

Depends on the terrain and limbs available brydan. Ive used the big shot for limbs up to 60 feet just because the other ones wouldnt work or id use the crotch of the tree.

After seeing a couple people using a ropeman instead of a hand ascender, I started playing around. I ordered a couple more ropemen (since you can never have enough.....) and a couple of paragliding carabiners to make this micro SRT set. The best part is there is absolutely no rattle. Once at the top, I can transfer one of the ropeman to my tether. I'll have to bring a figure eight for rapelling, but that doesn't bother me. I really was never a big fan of the grigri anyways. I never really trusted it to catch and I hated the way it rattled.

What biners? I just ordered Camp Photon and Trango Super-fly lightweight screwlocks (around 42gr?)

So you’re doing a footloop on top and that carabiner used as a pulley to advance the harness (bottom) Ropeman.

There’s also a good redundant clip where you sling your harness to the foot ascender

I’m gettig this same rig dialed in

Nice set up both the tether and the tree location I could hang in that tree for life.

The thing is, I'm not extravagant or a show off at all. I like to use that post to try things out on and take pictures, but I often think I should go outside to take my pictures just so it doesn't give off that impression.

Nah!!! The pictures turn out better against that whitish wood. Plus you should be proud of the thing you work hard for. I don't get that impression, I just wanted to mess with ya.
