Switching to Amsteel

I love seeing so much love for amsteel. It's such an incredible product and is perfect for saddle hunters.

Sounds like G2 has multiple commission streams coming in... Sit Drag, Amsteel...
Or he is a European saddle hunter - always starting the new trends.

I'm actually going to order some to make bridges for different saddles I'm piecing together... Thanks for the heads up on this stuff.

And by the way, since my pitchman deal with SitDrag is going so well I was able to negotiate an even better retainer with Amsteel Blue. They pay me $.05 per 1000' of rope sold! Woohoooooo! Lookout early retirement, here I come.

So I received my order in record time from Redden Marine Supply. I ordered 43ft of 1/4" amsteel and it fit in one of those small priority mail boxes. I went with silver which is brighter than I expected, but will work just fine. I had read the black rope can have the dye come off and get on things, so I went with silver. My experience with Redden was excellent and will buy from them again.
Splicing this stuff is so easy, I question if Im doing it right. lol For giggles I put my ropeman 1 on the 1/4" and stood on the amsteel and pulled up on the carabiner hooked to my 7/16 assault and it didnt budge. Now Im not suggesting one use this combination, I was just curious how slippery this amsteel was and the ropeman grabs it just fine. I dont think there would be any issue running the larger size as suggested by the ropeman 1 as a tether. It did kinda mash the fibers a bit, but its so hard to cut this stuff that a ropeman 1 will never get through it in my opinion. I used the back end of an old aluminum arrow with the swedged end for a glue on nock. I used a 2117, but a larger series would work better for this size rope but not necessary if you taper the burry and tape it to the arrow. Im going to buy the hook tool G2 suggested, I just didnt want to wait to play with this stuff. :)

Glad you like it. When you feel how light and soft the rope is, it's hard to believe it's stronger than steel.

I love the stuff.

Well heres my saddle with a 1/4" amsteel whoopie bridge. Im not sold on a set length, so this gives me the ability to alter it. As you can see Im not using any carabiners and will only use them on my lineman which will be connected to the RC harness.

Whoopie Sling Bridge! That's a great idea. NICE job splicing that. Pairing this bridge with a Ropeman 1 tether would be the ultimate in adjustability. AWESOME!

Coat hangers or any stiff malleable wire work well for splicing the smaller sizes of amsteel!

x2 I just use a coat hanger on the 1/4 inch stuff.

you aren't using it as a tether are you? Been think g about ordering some. 1/4" is a good all around size?

Not as a tether, but wouldn't mind trying it with larger diameter and ropeman 1. 1/4" is overkill, but easy to handle and doesn't look as scary as the smaller stuff when your off the ground.

If you double up the 1/4 by feeding a second line inside the first, I bet it would be solid enough for the Ropeman to work really well.

Now that's an interesting idea.

I really don't like how bulky my assault line is. Your idea could solve that.

The amsteel worked great and the whoopie sling bridge was awesome. I adjusted it multiple times and came back to long bridge, short hook up. However I want to practice a bit shooting out of it as I think there might be better clearance with short bridge. Might be something to switch to during prime time, but keep it long for comfort during the off times. The 1/4" bothered me a bit mentally, but knowing how strong it is i got over the fear. I haven't whip stitched it and as hard as the whoopie holds, Im not worried about it.

Yip me to.
I'm a bit apprehensive to trust my life on my splicing skills though...but I'm sure tempted!
Just go for it! Splicing is one of those things that seems intimidating until you try it. Afterwards you realize it's pretty simple.

Amsteel is cheap. Worst case scenario you have some strong rope for other projects.
