Working out

Congrats on tge trifecta Ernie! Ooh, an ultra beast? That is tough...good-on-ya!

Yeah it may have been a dumb idea, but when I finished the beast, I thought "you know what if I took it slow I might be able to do that again" (meanwhile remembering at least two obstacles I did not want to do again!)

Then I had a friend tell me "you know, you should sign up for something you don't know if you can finish......"

At the same time I thought what's the next hardest thing to try.

What sealed the deal was a friend of mine did one this fall and has been teasing me about how he got his belt buckle before I did.

So...... apparently I am signed up for a 28 mile obstacle course this summer.

My whole life I trained and competed in taekwondo nationally. I was pretty good untill I blew out my acl and bucket handled my meniscus in a fight. I used to work out a minimum of 3 hours a day BK (before kids).

Now I just got the knee repaired. I may get into these races after rehab on the knee. They look like a blast!

Nice @Wirrex. I competed internationally in WKF Karate (traditional japanese karate) many moons ago. I'm excited to see what happens at the Tokyo olympics when karate has its inaugural games.

the races are a blast...a good challenge (especially at 50 lol)

I don’t want to burst your bubble but when tkd got into the olympics a bunch of the rules changed and for the worse in my opinion. It really hurt the sport. It changed the fighting style entirely.

already has :( lol....they eliminated some things like hip throws, can't grab with both hands in a clench (to throw or sweep etc), changed some of the scoring. but I'd still like to see a world level tourney with tv coverage...ps they are also including Kata competition and no just fighting (Kumite)...

I have two areas in the house. Primary is in my basement. I keep the olympic lifts to the garage or outside.

My basement gym grows a little every year. I should take some updated pictures. I added some strap safeties, monolift, a new hex bar, and a bar rack over Black Friday.

Home gyms are the best, especially if you live in the country. If I didn't have one, I wouldn't work out, and I would slowly feel every injury have incurred over the course of my life.

damn. nice Rogue cage. If I can afford it, at some point I'll get one of the fold away racks for the garage. for now all squats are done via the steinborn method or clean/jerk over....and all pressing is from a suiss ball or standing (or with the landmine)

You may want to consider protecting your concrete. Horse stall mats are cheap and effective. 1-2 would give you a lot of options.

I have 14 stall mats in my basement. That was a work out in itself. Each one is over a 100 lbs and it's like wrestling a giant burrito when carrying them.

Anyone ever torn a rotator cuff???? I'm pretty sure mine is torn. Any hope??? Surgery???

years ago, I hurt my right shoulder pretty bad, but I was able to do physical therapy as a last-ditch effort to avoid surgery, I would try that first, you can always get surgery later on down the road and I'm a big fan of avoiding the blade! good luck!

BTW, I just injured my back....again, steroid shot in my L5S1, it was about the most painful thing I've ever undergone, I'm hoping it helps and I can get back to the PT and Chiro, more pain management scheduled next month, ugh.

I had two full tears on my right shoulder that I had full reconstructive surgery two years ago. It was a long rehab but I am fully recovered shooting the bow fine and doing pull-ups and dips easily again. I run a personal training company so I had the opportunity to do a very structured rehab program for the first year post-surgery. My advice if you get surgery to not only do the PT but continue your own rehab at least 3 times a week to get the range of motion and strength back to 100%. Purchase a set of Crossover symmetry (www.crossoversymmetry.com) and use at home.

Thats good advice. I have had 2 surgeries 1 on each side. One was labrum tear other was bicep tear. Its a minimum 6 month rehab to get back to your pre injury routines and probably 9-12 months to regain full strength. I do Crossfit pretty hard core at home so that was my rehab. Definitely recommend the crossover symmetry. I should be doing more of it still.

That don’t sound good. Surgery is the cure. My wife had it no problems a little painful. My mother in law has had it 2 times on the same shoulder. It never got better
Good luck bro. I throw a prayer your way!

There may be other things to clean up too: frayed tendons, bone spurs and and they will probably say "at your age there is going to be more wear and tear". rehab sucks and range of motion is key early on. Do the MRI it will help make the decision - plus when to do it. I always scheduled mine for December that way I was thru deer season and I typically had met out of pocket max on insurance or come close.
