Keto - If you're a saddle hunter, I think you'll dig it.

I don't like popping pills, I don't like doctors! When I was a kid I got an abscess under my arm next thing I know I was in Boston Floating Hospital. A team of doctors were at my bedside every morning asking questions, putting tubes up my nose, pumping my stomach, sticking needles in my back. They thought I had Tuberculous, cat scratch disease and others. I cried to my mother and told her they were just using me for a Guinea pig. She went to the head of the board of health and asked if the hospital could keep me against her will and they said no. When my mom took me home they fought her and said I could be contagious. I remember me in my mothers arms and her having a screaming match with the head doctor. You know we never got any type of bill for a two week stay in that hospital! Because of that I don't like doctors. I only go to doctors now because my children beg me to go. I'm almost 66 years old and I guess I should be monitored for my health but I think I need a doctor that will work with me.
Glad you made it out OK. Just like any other profession or group of people.... there are good ones and bad ones. Too many folks take what their GP says as holy writ, especially about things the MD may not have education in, such as kinesiology or nutrition. There are many very good ones, but you will have to interview them to find which ones align with your own thoughts on treatment. Good luck!

Sorry to hijack this thread with so many posts. I am just trying to give back, I have myself received much help in matters in which I am an amateur, such as saddle hunting.

I did the keto thing 4 years ago. Started at 308lbs. I was always big even though I was very active and work construction. In 6 months I was down to 200lbs. After a year I hit 174lbs. All was great except I was always freezing. Big problem when your a big time snowmobiler and hunter! Decided the popping veins where not worth being to cold to enjoy my hobbies. Took on paleo so that I could get fat off of fruit and nuts. Now I can control weight very easy by adjusting macros. I try to fatten up to about 220 until end of January, then cut back to 200ish for summer. I don't miss bread or grains at all. That's just our government trying to feed our overpopulation problem. Paleo makes you a better hunter too I'm convinced

I'm not on the keto train, but it's a nobrainer that a reduced carb diet would lead to weight loss. It gets results for a lot of folks. Ultimately I think it goes back to calories in vs calories out. I lost 40lbs and have experienced many of the benefits attributed to keto (better energy, less bloating, etc.)

That being said, my go-to "keto" snacks are eggs, sardines, and cheese. Definitely better for you than Snickers and a Coke, but a little harder on your trenchermates. Pickled quail eggs are particularly tasty.
Might cause a scent control issue, unless you coon hunt.

Doctors have their place. But practicing medicine is not with out its risks for the pastiest. @rutjr I was 10 or 12 years old, I would get a cold and lymph nodes areound my appendix would swell causing me a lot of pain. I ended up in the hospital, they anted to do explatory surgery. My Dad and mom got me out of the hospital. Yup, I out grew it.

I am back in the keto diet today. Gonna luv goes through the keto flu again. Lol

Im gonna give keto a try as well. Thanks for the tips. I havent been to a doctor in over 5 years. Just cant trust them. When its time to go its time to go. At least I wont have to worry about bills and taxes.

I just recently started keto. I don't need to lose weight or anything but I did it to eat clean and gain mental clarity and energy. It's only been a few days and I feel foggy and tired. The first day I felt great but just couldn't sleep. Hope the fog clears soon and I start feeling the energy and clarity so many have mentioned.

i found the first 3 or 4 days were killer. headaches, light headed, tired like falling asleep standing up tired. after those initial few days it was like a switch went off. i had all kinds of energy and it just kept building the more weight i lost. went from 263 to 226 from jan to may. held it steady over the summer but when our daughter was born i slowly slipped back to my old ways. back up to 250 and starting all over again.

Dang that's good to know it doesn't last long. It's really not hard to eat this way. I think what threw me into a keto flu feeling was that I overlooked the no hard exercise thing at first and ran 3 miles pretty hard. That afternoon it started in. Who knows.

The brain fog usually lasts 3 days for me when getting into keto. However that usually takes 2 days of keto eating before it starts. Quest bars can kill the fog for me but some people get kicked out of ketosis from them which means your gonna start the fog all over again

The boss lady put me on Keto approximately 2 months ago. I can honestly say that I will never regress to the way I was eating before. I enjoy many of the same benefits you listed; incredible increase in energy, lower blood pressure, no bloating after eating, better and more recuperative sleep, and 18 lbs less. I am will be 58 in a few months and honestly feel great!

BTW. You can still enjoy a cold beer. Try the low carb lite beers.

That's refreshing to hear. I actually felt pretty good today. I don't mind eating keto. The food is actually pretty good if you can get past all the cauliflower lol.

If anyone is like me and can never seem to stay on top of a grocery list, I use GreenChef Keto; 3 meals/week. A weekly food service has cut down on my waste and keeps my "diet" on track.
I don't want to spam this thread, but if you want 4 free meals I can give you a code, plus I'll get $25 off if you stay on. PM me and I'll send the code, I think I can only do 4 though. They also have Gluten free/Paleo and a few others. The only thing I don't like is it is a Wednesday delivery.

And GreenChef's marketing guy is looking at stats this afternoon wondering why they got a bunch of hits from SaddleHunter.com ! lol

For health reasons I would never eat pre-made commercial meals. Look at the ingredients - lost of man mad preservatives in there. I always have extra coconut oil and sardines in the pantry - KETO is the easiest "diet" to maintain that I have ever found. And for hunting, throw some macadamia nuts in a bag, or a can of sardines or an avocado and that is all you need all day long once you are truly fat adapted.

I too jumped on the KETO wagon last year and it has worked for me. Though not being super strict on myself, I've lost about 30-35 lbs. My favorite meal to prepare that's pretty simple to do is called eggroll in a bowl, also some call it "crack" slaw. Using a hot style breakfast sausage seems to be what I like best but you can use any ground meat you like (deer meat) ha,ha,ha, if only had some.

I love the crack slaw! My wife also makes it with chorizo and Mexican spices. Stuff is great

Had some bacon wrapped brussel sprouts and some pork chops. Makes me wonder if it's bad for your heart lol. This is too easy
