Louisiana Saddle Hunter's Thread

I want to put a single step aider on all 6 of my sticks (API) after I cut them down. Any ideas on material/sewing techniques for the aider?

Maybe 1/2" flat tubular webbing? Seems you could easily make it to stay open for your foot . Just a thought.

Use one aider that is moveable. Saves weight and much easier to pack

Sounds much better- suggestions on material? High tinsel strength strap with mini carabiners? The steps on the API’s are billeted so I could clip and climb and unclip. Thoughts?

I use a 5-step aider with my wild edge steps and love my climbing system.

I don’t have WE steps but I think a 5 step aider is still out of my novice ballpark.

I have holes in my steps. I use the adjustable aider from wild edge. It has a clip I put through the hole in my top step. I move it up as I climb up. You could easily make an aider out of tubular webbing and do the same thing but it wouldn’t be as adjustable.

It's all about your comfortability being next to a tree. I think all of us Louisiana boys need to meet up at Sherburne for instance for a full day of rifle shooting and bow shooting and trading off ideas and techniques of using our saddles and climbing techniques in the tree.

I bought my aider, got it in the mail and that afternoon I used it with three of my Wild Edge steps to get 22 feet up and hunted on that very first climb and felt great about the system I used.

I’m starting fresh so I’m already in trouble.

My only saving grace is that I may be losing my lease this year which is why I’m switching to a saddle.

So for my wife, I just tell her I ONLY need $500 for a saddle and gear instead of $950 for the lease... I’m saving us money

Revisiting this; I like the idea of the clip on moveable aider, but one like this WE aider would work with 2 clips for my API’s. A single clip would only hook onto one side of the bottom step and I could see the potential for side loading causing the stick to slide sideways. Thoughts?

I can buy some tubular webbing and clips and make my own- but I really like the metolius 4 step aiders if I can clip it on both sides of the bottom step. Anyone have one of these?

If you are going to use a movable aider you need to place on top step. Otherwise you won’t be able to grab it and move it up. For me I don’t see any problem with side load. The hole in my step I use to hook into is cut close to post. Also I’m grabbing on both top steps when stepping into aider. Clipping into bottom step may cause side load problems.
