Louisiana Saddle Hunter's Thread

My steps look pretty similar to these and I’m clipping into that hole on my top step.

Revisiting this; I like the idea of the clip on moveable aider, but one like this WE aider would work with 2 clips for my API’s. A single clip would only hook onto one side of the bottom step and I could see the potential for side loading causing the stick to slide sideways. Thoughts?

I can buy some tubular webbing and clips and make my own- but I really like the metolius 4 step aiders if I can clip it on both sides of the bottom step. Anyone have one of these?

Hello neighbors. I'm trying to get in touch with someone at Old Cypress Outdoors. I bought a stick from them and I've been trying to contact them via phone and email for months and get no response. I like the weight and double steps, but the steps move slightly and pop when you step on them. I want very much to like them, but customer service is lacking. The main reason I bought from them is they are from South Louisiana. All my people are from there, so I wanted to support them. Any of y'all know another way off contacting them or know them personally?

take a look at this video in regards to a movable aider. Go to the 4 min mark if you haven't seen this. I don't use one, but if I did, I think this is how I would do it. plus it stays connected to your foot. Checking in from south la btw. Been in the saddle for a season now.

So I just got my new '19 OB Turmoil RZ on Wednesday morning!!! After getting sighted in with a few dozen shots, I'm shooting dimes at 30 yards (pic below)... 5 out of 6 shots on point.

Love the smooth draw, the back wall, the balance, and overall, the general feel from pre-shot to release to follow-through. It's my first longer ATA bow (I've always had a 28-29 ATA bow), and I feel like I definitely am already holding steadier on my sight picture and following through much better.

And to top it off, this dang thing sends rockets downrange. With a 65# draw weight and a 28.5" draw length, and finished arrows at 412gr, my average speed (from 6 shots) is 302 fps, with top speed clocked at 303 fps.

I couldn't be happier with my decision to go with the '19 OB Turmoil RZ. I still have some tweaking to do with my form (this bow shoots way differently/better than my old Bear) and sight, but I can't wait to keep working with it! I already feel like a MUCH more confident and better archer with my new bow (and I was already a quite confident and capable archer before).

What are all you fellow LA boys gonna be shootin' this year out of your saddle?

I think all of us Louisiana boys need to meet up at Sherburne for instance for a full day of rifle shooting and bow shooting and trading off ideas and techniques of using our saddles and climbing techniques in the tree

Sounds like a great idea! I used to be a regular at Sherburne. Let my membership lapse at the Arnaudville range a few years go and recently started going back to Sherburne again. It kinda sucks with the baffles now but it's better than nothing. I'm sure there's there's some good climbing trees right there next to the archery range.

I think it'd be fun too!

I shoot an old Hoyt Maxis 31. Upgrading sights and new strings this off season. Going to a single pin. Anyone else shooting single pin?

I just started with a single pin on Wednesday. So far, I really enjoy it. I am using the Apex Gear Covert. It was a mid-level price point one that I felt it was best to try out to see if I really enjoyed using an adjustable single pin before spending more than a couple of hundred dollars on a really top of the line one.

I have a buddy who tunes bows and will do all my work for me. He said spot hog and HHA were great. I think I’m just going to bite the bullet as I have been shooting a $50 site for 4 years lol

HHA will almost certainly be my next one when I upgrade in a few months.

Shoot a gearhead t20. Very fun to shoot but not very forgiving. Great in the tree.

Here I am! First post on this sight, I live in Lafayette and hunted this year out of a Kestrel. mostly in Sherburne. Still getting used to it. If I would have been in my climber I would have had a 30 yard shot at a good 8 point this year. The buck came in on my weak side and I just couldn't turn on him fast enough. Oh well my fault! I should have practiced more shooting out of it.........Next Year!! Happy to be here and Im looking forward to trying some of these mods by next season. Im enjoying the site and shot out to whoever started this thread!

Welcome to the site. This was also my first season to saddle hunt. Hunting from my Kite allowed me to hunt areas of my lease on days the wind was wrong for existing stands and other difficult areas. If I were Hunting public land a saddle would be the only way hunt.

Hello fellas. I'm looking for a little help. I am was born and raised in LA in the Denham area till I was 21, then moved to the mountains of North Bama where I've lived for the past 12 years. I never hunted public land while in LA, always knew someone with private land. A buddy and I are wanting to make a trip to LA to hunt hogs. Not up on the rules and regs for LA, since I haven't hunted it much in the past 12 years. Can someone help me out and point me in the right direction? In return we will bring you out for some mountain deer hunting if that interest you.

Richard K Yancey has tons of hogs. The only caveat to PL is you have to hunt with whatever season is open. So squirrel is open, you have to use legal squirrel shot.
