I almost added 15 points for us last night.
Got to spend a little time scouting and setting a few cameras. The cold weather got the deer on their feet a lot more during daylight. I went to swap a card and try a new access route for one spot. Got home and had 4 different legal bucks in that spot. A lot.
I snuck in last night, and had a doe and two yearlings browse past me. She got downwind and stomped and was not thrilled about my smell. They eventually got out of earshot, and I could see another deer coming. It was a 3pt, and he worked the scrapes I was set up on. I figured I won't be able to hunt much for a spell, and we need points, so I let him get directly upwind before a soft grunt. I lost him in the thicket, and never saw him again. I could see another deer coming, and now I'm getting worked up. The doe, yearlings, and 3pt were regulars in all the pictures. The only others were big bucks.
I let the deer settle into working the scrape, and hoped he'd come to the one under me next. All of a sudden, I hear that ole nanny doe snort at me about 50-75 yards behind me. He looks up in her direction, trying to figure out what was going on. She snorts again, and he turns our way. I let out a soft tending grunt, and he sprinted from about 60 yards out straight to my tree. I had the mini locked and loaded...only problem he stopped behind a tree at about 6-7 steps. I could see his hams and tips of one antler. He had slammed on the brakes because I'm sure he ran into my smell. He tensed up, and turned on a dime and trotted off same direction with no shot.
The doe stomping and snorting behind me gave me the perfect cover. It worked out perfectly, minus his stopping point. Checked card and it was a really nice 10, and would definitely been my best bow buck. Game of inches.
Sorry boys. Executed 99.99%, but couldn't close the deal.
