Duck season closes tomorrow, so had one more hunt today to close it out. Back to archery deer for the home stretch!

Finally a doe day and all I saw was little bucks. Go figure

I think I had my last rifle hunt of the season this morning. I have some honeydo stuff I need to take care of tomorrow. Only one doe and fawn came through about 10 minutes before shooting light.

According to my hunting log I've spent 181 hours in the saddle so far this year over 55 hunts with no deer to show for it (no wonder the wife wants me to get a couple of things done around the house :tearsofjoy: ). Muzzle loader season starts on Saturday and runs for a week. Good news is that I have that week off from work so I can spend some more hours in the saddle that week. Then late bow season follows. Hopefully I can still pull something off, I need the venison. I do love the late season hunting so as long as I can get my truck off the road I'm going to keep hitting it.

3 hunts with no deer to show for it. Felt supremely confident in each set, and had cam intel to back up the feelings. Left set for morning hoping I can get something going then. Weather not great but will hit mid 40’s tomo am

First day of rifle season always a special day here. Got to hunt with my brother and my dad which is great. My dad and I are tagged out but I put lil' bro in one of my best spots to start the day. He saw some does, then at noon we did a big push for him and I kicked a buck out but he couldn't get a shot.

Onto another spot, we did the wind bump in a big bowl and right at the very end his 243 barked as I eased down a brushy point. I was closer to the buck than he was and I heard it crash and was first on the scene. I love a good wind bump, one of my favorite rifle hunts ever with the assist. He made a heck of a shot too, I can of course do most things better but that kid is one fine marksman. Super cool mountain buck too, has some moose genes it seems.
Just a great day to put a lid on the season. Next season starts now, get out there and scout!

Holy Catz!
Come to my place for a few days. Pa has over the counter license. I have some real good areas to hunt!

Today I saw 6 different bucks and probably 25 or so does. Three scrappers, two really nice bucks, and one big one...
I have doe tags so I'm still able to carry a weapon but I have no need to shoot any more this year. The freezer is full but I wanna be in the woods.
The first buck I saw this morning, I was on my 2nd one-sticking move and made some pretty loud noise setting my stick (cherry tree) so I stopped and took a look around. Sure enough, 60 yards away I see deer legs. I could tell it was probably a buck but when he started making a scrape I knew for sure. I love reading on here how some guys say how loud one-sticking is! Hahaha, that cherry tree was in a great spot and I knew it'd be kinda noisy but that buck had no clue I was there...
Anyways, I just love to be in the hunt! It doesn't matter to me if I shoot anything or not. I had my camera gear with me today but didn't drag it out. I definitely should have!
It's supposed to rain all day tomorrow so I might give the 'bird watching' a rest?

Bunch of suzie slayers in that group it looks like.

I wish I grew up in a different part of the country sometimes. Corn field mallards sounds amazing right about now.

You guys are awfully quiet.

Ok, I got a lame story...
Yesterday's forecast was rain all day but around 1:30 it stopped raining and I figured what the heck.
I had a spot in mind that I wanted to go to and see some deer. They're in there all the time.
It's a pretty good hike back in there and with the rain all morning I figured I'd have the woods to myself.
This place had some big strips 'select cut' a handful of years back and it's thick in most places. The area I wanted to watch was right at top of the mountain and I knew there was some trees left behind that were tall enough that I could even see down into a couple ravines to the West. Me and the ol' 7mm Mag could definitely cover some ground.
So I get back where I wanted to be and found a great tree. I get everything ready at the base and start one-sticking my way up. Once I got to where hunting height was gonna be I get my rifle's tree strap ready first. Even before my ROS or pack because I keep getting caught up in a dang tree with my weapon still on the ground!
Well, tree strap is secured and I reach for my pull up rope and a gust of wind rips through a blew me right into the tree! The gust doesn’t stop, it just keeps getting worse and it starts pouring too...
By the time I get my gun up I'm freaking soaked! I wasn't too thrilled about the situation so I aborted the saddle hunt and just packed up my ropes and stick and snuck around for next couple hours.
I did end up seeing 10 or 12 deer by dark and i got to be in the woods.

Hard to get motivated to be in the woods right now. New job position within the company so back to 5 day work weeks. Not much interested in deer at the moment except for maybe an evening hunt for a doe with the stick bow. I'm dying for a good mixed back duck hunt or a good field goose shoot.

Off to Kansas in the morning. Doubtful I'll get in the saddle but I. taking it anyway. Hopefully put a couple holes in a big buck whether its off the ground or out of a tree in the creek bed. Should get to bust up some pheasants as well. I'll report whenever I get back home.

I'm waiting out the end of the orange army here in Michigan. The woods are so crowded during rifle season and then most everybody disappears come the 1st of December. Turns out I've been granted an unplanned week off starting the 5th of December so I'll get some extra muzzleloader/late bow time this year.

Does have grouped up big time around me.

Have a hog show (first of the year) to go to. My oldest is showing 2 of her 3 hogs in the morning, got free suite tickets from the company to the Cody Johnson concert in tulsa tomorrow evening, then headed to the marsh Sunday AM to hopefully smack some mallards in the face.

Saw one little yearling 4pt yesterday afternoon early and that was it. Raining now but this afternoon looks to clear out but warm. Today is last doe day until last week of season so any doe shows up I will take.

As I sit in the tree figured I’d entertain you guys at my expense with my well story. So they drilled to 520’ as I already told you all but the hole kept closing on them. Ended up drilling it three times and ruined all kinds of good pipe before giving up and moving to a new spot just 15’ away. On day two of drilling there they got it. We have good clean water from there, just waiting on second crew to connect to house and actually put pump down in ground. What a disaster!

Kansas was fun. Friend that lives out there shot the big one the day after I couldn’t pass the one on the right. Biggest whitetails for both of us so was a great hunt. I took the saddle but even the damn creek bottoms out there have no trees. View attachment 77315

Congrats. Those are some nice bucks!
