What's Your Favorite Piece of Hunting Gear?

JX3 for sure. Super comfortable and can set it up so many different ways. Allows for me to never have to remove my thermacell. Thermacell is my second favorite necessity here in the south because we mosquitoes year round if it gets warm enough. Which in Mississippi is every other day.

Have you ever took a year off from hunting.

Mississippi doesn't pay us well enough to make it off of our, "PRIMARY" job alone. We have to resort to having two or three jobs to live comfortably. We only work an average of ten days a month, but they're 24 hour shifts. Then you have to work your side jobs to compensate for the lack of funds...

    Darwin Award tree stands

Probably 10 plus years ago I waited for some reason until March to take stands down. Wore a harness and lineman's on all but the last one. It was only around 15', so the moron in me took over and I didn't wear the harness. Got up to the loc on, flipped the seat up, and there is a giant black...

    So many Predators!!!!

Got mine on the first batch of Gen 1’s. Have used it exclusively for three years. We have a season that runs from 10/1 to 1/31 and I hunt the entire season. It’s solid. It bites the tree and yes I toe hook it, but am very careful when doing so. I would recommend it to anyone.

    sitdrag failure

Hunted with mine exclusively for the last two years. Still using it this year. We have a four month season. The first year I just ran a 2" webbing belt through the bridge loops. Felt safe enough, then the fireman in me kicked in and started using the same set up with a bod harness.

Random Musings From Your Resident Contrarian and Underage Curmudgeon

The total disregard for safety and not getting competent instruction blows my mind. Some things in life can be instructed via reading. Hands on instruction is the ONLY acceptable means to be competent at ascending, descending, and fall factors. There’s also a very good reason to follow climb...

    Do not drop that phone.

Lifeproof case = great for dropped on engine room floor, thrown on dash of the engine, or dropped out of shoeing box onto concrete barn floor. Lifeproof case < 30' drop from a pine tree when landing on a rifle stock. The rifle stock being the only hard surface around the base of the tree, which...

What is it about saddle hunting

You come back to it because of the sheer bad assery of it. It’s the most ninjaist way to hunt. All bs aside it’s more comfortable and way, way lighter. Well, for me at least.

    Questions about spurs!

Get some Klein spurs. They're steel and heavier than the other offerings. Also much cheaper too. They do skin pines up pretty good, but not so bad that it would kill them, unless beetles get into them. If you're hunting oaks than you can get away with pole gaffs. If pines you need tree gaffs...
