Why hasn't saddlehunting become more mainstream?

Just some observations that may influence participation in saddle hunting: 1) There is a learning curve w/ saddle hunting. It takes time to figure out what works best for you and your hunting scenario. 2) Saddle hunting is comparatively expensive as others have pointed out already. 3) Lack of...

    Trail camera DIY Security Enclosures

Home brew will cost you more time and money than it's worth. Here's a link to a place that manufactures camera lock boxes (http://store.camlockbox.com/). I use 3.5" 5/16 lag bolts to secure to the tree and use a quality master lock with a shrouded shackle...

    Trad bow hanger

That would be left to the discretion of the officer. I suppose you could make a case using that exact wording, but I also think an officer could make a case that a bow hook could be used to "facilitate climbing" in some way. Y'all are welcome to interpret the law however you want, but if a rule...

    Trad bow hanger

FYI - The cambium layer is the inner bark. In other words, if you're screwing into wood, then you've penetrated the cambium. In most cases a screw-in bow hook would NOT be acceptable. The only instance where it would be acceptable is if the bark was so thick that you never penetrated the wood.

    Stepp ladder look alikes

The steps weren't bad, they just didn't suit my hunting style or my situation. The steps did what they were supposed to and would work fine on hardwood trees. However, most of my hunting is done out of loose bark pine trees because I live in the south, and hunt a lot of pine plantations. Also...

    Stepp ladder look alikes

Don't buy the knock-offs. Pay a little more and get the originals. I bought the Trophy Tree Stepps from Jeff Sondles and I was not fully satisfied with the product because they didn't work well on pine trees with loose bark. Jeff took my money and ran. No offer for a refund, no offer to "make...

Harness saddle ?? Is it possible

Yes! I actually converted one of my safety harnesses into a swing saddle using a pressure treated board, a lineman's belt, and a couple of carabineers. I have used it about a half dozen times now and I'm still alive, so it's functional. Here are some pictures: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=983

    Silencing strap on step platform

Excellent video! I've been looking for ways to silence my steps, and your carrying method seems simple enough as well. What kind of inner tube do you use to silence the buckles on straps? (referring to the video about your DIY platform where you used a Lone Wolf strap and covered the buckle...

Ameristep strap on step recall information

There is high demand for them within this community because we use them for platforms, but outside of this community they are nearly obsolete. It's also a pretty high risk venture...if one person falls and sues, you're screwed. If you get a batch of bad steps (like Ameristep did) you're screwed...

    New from MO

Welcome to the site! The Evo I had was comfortable, but I ended up having to sell it due to financial hardship (car payments became more important than another way to sit in a tree). I ended up doing a DIY saddle made out of a pressure treated plank and an extra lineman's belt. It's not as...

    The Great Scent Control Debate

After last year's experience of having some jack@$$ "scope" me, I was livid and a bit shaken. I could see him slowly "Elmer Fudding" through the woods, so I waited until he got into an opening where he would be able to see me and I whistled and waved. He looked at me confused, as if he couldn't...
