2022 Fishing Thread

We gonna go battle the wind and see if we can get some pompano in the morning... Tide turns at 11 so if the sinkers will stick it should be a good morning.

Before I melt it down the lead and pour into diy mold they weight out 2oz, 3oz and 4oz....add a little household electrical wire and viola.....diy sputniksScreenshot_20220430-213147~2.png

Dredge boat was working where we ended up fishing and I think the silty water negatively effected the fishing but we did alright...handful of undersize pomps with 1 keeper and nice "bull" whiting....hahaha

Lots of dolphins out and caught glimpse of a big sea turtle but didn't see well enough to see which kind....the boy had fun so that's all that mattersScreenshot_20220501-122058~2.pngScreenshot_20220501-122104~2.pngScreenshot_20220501-122109~2.png

My first bass of the year back in Feb on a jerkbait. Would love to know what happened to this guy. No boats on this pond

Went on a giant cold spell after that. Didn't fish a whole lot but couldn't catch any when I decided to. Even went out for the trout opener and got blanked. Decided to switch things up and take my kids out for an hour before trying to roost turkeys and voila. Caught a trout on an inline spinner and a few sunnies to boot. My son wants to keep every single bluegill we catch so convincing him to toss back the little ones is quite the chore. Was able to convince him to only keep these two with the trout lol

Then my son was signed up for his first fishing derby. One of my proudest days as a dad so far. Caught the 2nd biggest fish of the day for his 6 & under age group at 13 1/4" long. We had a great morning and he won a new rod in addition to his trophy and providing dinner!

After a lot of weird weather and no solid warm trends it seemed like bass were finally making their way out of the depths and up to make beds so I've started trying to sneak out to my local ponds when the kids go to bed for the last 45-60 mins of daylight. Caught my first chunk last Tuesday on the trusty ol wacky rig at 3lb 9oz. Either a very large male or a female that hadn't gorged itself on bream yet. Long fish with a big head but no girth.

Went back Saturday for a few hour trip hoping to get on some decent bass with the kids. First cast I landed this guy who has clearly been working hard to prepare for an egg dump. The idea of that being bad luck was apparently true as I couldn't hook anything the rest of the evening. Instead I decided to make it a legendary trip for the munchkins as we reeled in giant sunny after giant sunny. Took them home for quite a meal.

Bass seem to be about a month behind schedule on the spawn compared to last year. Hoping to get out again tonight and a couple more times this week. I think the big mamas are still deep and I want to try and work the drop shot a bit to pick one off.

I don't keep great track of things, but I think we got a late start here. Just now getting 70° temps and "normal" (not flooded) water levels. Catching a lot of cats with eggs and a lot of really vibrant panfish. It's only been within the past week that I've started talking to folks who would admit to doing any good, and I haven't seen but one school of shad (right out my backdoor while I was busy cooking dinner. Just my luck.)

I just got done making up a dozen catfish jugs and cleaning up my trotline bucket. Need to spool my new tatula and gather up all my bass tackle this week

I know you said before you can’t stand bass fisherpeople but I tell you what them bass’ll eat a lot better than those channel cats in my opinion. You might have already given em a try, ole swamp made me a believer.

I think I set lines way too early and let them soak too long. Out of 12 lines 8 were empty hooks, 2 still had live bait, and we hauled in 2 decent little blues.

Good way to start a Monday. And I now have PLENTY of fish fry material for the weekend.
Any more fish and you will need to change your handle to FISHbuster!!!

Water here is lucky to be 60. Any warm day we’ve had was followed by a couple near freezing mornings in a row. Think that spell has broke finally though.

I need to get into cat fishing more. My kids would love it and I love eating um

My hunch on the drop shot I mentioned above was correct. Another 3.5 pounder tonight

Immediately after him I caught this feisty fella on the same bait lol

Then caught a handful of dinks before ending the evening with another 3 pounder on a Texas rigged 10” power worm
