2022 Fishing Thread

Water here is lucky to be 60. Any warm day we’ve had was followed by a couple near freezing mornings in a row. Think that spell has broke finally though.

I need to get into cat fishing more. My kids would love it and I love eating um

My hunch on the drop shot I mentioned above was correct. Another 3.5 pounder tonight

Immediately after him I caught this feisty fella on the same bait lol

Then caught a handful of dinks before ending the e ending with another 3 pounder on a Texas rigged 10” power worm

Nice. That bluegill reminds me of all the ones I've had hit a full sized jitterbug. I swear they all have napoleon complexes

It's hilarious what they'll try to eat. I've had similar experiences but with crankbaits. Even if it was a real fish they couldn't fit the thing in their mouths

Set some juglines last night and let them soak while we set a trotline out. Took us about an hour. By the time we got back 3 jugs had fish. My dear wife lost all 3 of them somehow.

Went to check the line this morning and the first fish on it she lost. She threw up her hands and told me to take over. 30 seconds later...

Gotta love it!

Nice flathead

I wanna see you get after the ones up around where you are. That river is famous nationwide for big blue cats. State record blue came from close to you and is like 120lbs.
I ran a line today with some Zote soap and struck out, I suck at trot lining. And yea the catfish on wheeler lake are huge, they’re living off the meow mix infused water that I’m sure is making them jacked. They just had a big cat fishing tournament up here last week.

Teach me how to catch crappie good sir

hunt the rut.

hunt where there a pile of deer.

hunt when the conditions are favorable to the deer not you.

sound familiar?

haha then just hang pretty much any bait from 0-12” above the fish’s eyeballs.

If the above doesn’t work they’re too finicky and I’ve got catfish or speckled trout or some other more hungry fish to chase.

Best way to catch a crappie I've found is a live minnow dangled 0-12 inches above his eyeballs like @kyler1945 said. I use the same rod and reel and 2" slip float I use for bream fishing and just put a crappie-mouth sized aberdeen hook on it.

If you can find bluegill on a lake, crappie are usually nearby, just a little deeper. Or that's my experience.

Richard Gene has a youtube channel and is right there in your neck of the woods. I swear that man could catch a crappie in an abandoned old concrete birdbath.

Minnow is probably the best but a 2” white curly tail grub is the cheapest as you can catch them all day on the same bait.

I have caught about everything that swims on the Berkeley powerbait grub. Probably my favorite synthetic for creek fishing.

Really slow tooth day....but 3 different locals had to tell us about the guy yesterday who reeled in 10ft tiger yesterday morningView attachment 65113
im headed to SC this weekend. Summerville and Folly Beach are my 2 favorite places to find teeth in the country. I live close-ish to calvert cliffs MD and grew up finding Megs. Its one of my favorite hobbies. If you like it take a trip to Summerville. Always find a bag full of really nice teeth and fossils. Megs and Angustidens mostly but we find some other really cool stuff too.
