2022 Turkey Hunting Thread

Anyone shooting TSS out of their 870? If so, what choke?
Call William Sumtoy and he can recommend the right constriction based on the leads and specs for you. Great guy. I also highly recommend his bases for red dots for anyone considering one. He is the @DanO of turkey hunting and all things shotguns!

Check out some of the “Blue collar outdoors” videos on YouTube. They have some 870 videos. Then shoot the patternmaster Code Black Turkey out of it a lot. They are mainly patternmaster guys but they get some nasty patterns out of their 870’s

I do. If I am shooting new loads I typically shoot 20, 40 and 50. Fifty is just there to peak my interest. I don't tinker much with my turkey set up. I know what works and I stick with that. I don't branch out much on different loads and chokes so I rarely shoot my gun before the season

Any comparison to the one i posted the other day? I’m almost wondering if it’s too tight. Thanks!

I am certainly no expert but in my experience at 20 yards that’s what you will get with a good load that will reach out to 45 yards. So you either have a load that is super tight at close range but can reach out and touch him or you have a load that isn’t going to be that great at 45 yards

I would much rather have a tight pattern at 20 yards but know I can reach out to 45 if necessary. But I feel like I take my time and concentrate when I shoot as well

That’s a good point! I use a red dot too so it shouldn’t be too hard to aim small

Got a new red dot mount for my turkey gun. Avoids having to put a rail on the reciever and keeps my dot nice and low. I was gonna get one of those meadow creek mounts for the rib but this was actually cheaper and fits my at3 red dot. Not sure how i would like having my red dot so far down the barrel with the rib mount.

I've been using the Ameristep "Doghouse" ground blind for years now and it works fine. There have been times however that I would like more shooting ports and because of the spring steel system, it folds down round and is a bit bulkier to carry. This blind has been fine, but I have a gift certificate from Christmas for Cabela's and wanted to upgrade to something bigger with more shooting ports and something that will stand up to windy conditions a little better. From a durability standpoint, I can't argue with the Ameristep blinds, so I was thinking about upgrading to this one from Ameristep: Ameristep Brickhouse Ground Blind The price is right and seems to be tailor made for windy hunting conditions. Let me know what you all have experiences bowhunting turkeys with. Thanks!!

What pouch are you using on your Marsupial Gear Bino Chest Rig to carry your box call? I went to a packrabbit chest harness system last year and it has been great. I'm not really a box call user as I mostly use mouth diaphragms and pot calls, but it never hurts to hit a box call now and then, especially in windy conditions.

I’m using their bear spray holster. It’s a little snug but works perfect for what I need it to do. Some other companies have them as well but I figured marsupial to marsupial would work the best molle wise.

Turkey gear on camofire.com today. Thinking about picking up a crow call and possibly an owl call. Budget versions get the job done with these? I've seen prices for crow calls anywhere from $6 to $60

I have cheapo crow call that I always carry but don't use much. For me its just noise to make them shock gobble. My owl hooter never goes with me anymore. Doesn't fit my streamline system so I just use my own vocals.

Two years ago this guy got the business with a Remington 870 with a Carlson's barrel. Carlson's XR choke and Winchester Long Beard XR from about 20.
Shot my bird last year from 50 paces in the timber with the same set up.
