Shot right down the road from Unicoi. 5 minutes maybe.
Got one of those (and an Ithaca Mag 10). Never got a turkey with it. Darn thing is heavy enough to turn my legs numb after setting it across my lap in no time... Someday I'd like to take it out again just to get at least 1 bird with it.It’s a Remington SP10 magnum
Georgia. Are you talking about Unicoi Tennessee?
It was my dads. Only gun I’ve ever killed turkeys with. Shot 4 with it so far. It’s heavy. And a tote on long public land walks but man they don’t even flop when you shoot them!Got one of those (and an Ithaca Mag 10). Never got a turkey with it. Also, my little 3 year old absolutely LOVED going out into the blind with me 1 hunt last year. I normally won't hunt blinds and just sitting at a spot for some hours calling, but he wanted to go and I knew it would be impossible to carry him out the way I do it. We actually flushed a hen walking into the spot I wanted to setup, which got his excitement levels up. Never had any more action that morning other than one distant gobble. He had gone on a couple of my evening roosts with me, and I knew I had to get him out some way even though the public land can be a challenge. So this year I really want to bag a gobbler EARLY so I can focus the rest of my time carrying him out and trying to teach him right, at least as right as I know being a self taught turkey hunter. Hopefully find some decent farmers in the area that will let us setup on their fields to give him a better experience.
Anyone else carrying out youth (like non-hunting age) and have a decent plan for teaching them and giving them the experience?
Very cool, tough ole mountain bird then. Thanks!

I think I’m gonna try to take one with my bow as well!I am wanting to take a bird with my bow this season. That is my goal
I agree. If I had a nice set up with a field I would be more willing to try it. I know guys shoot birds in the mountains with their bows but at this point I still prefer the gunI think ill cheer you on from the sidelines and tote my boomstick
I would consider trying it after i killed 1 bird (we have 2 bird limit this year) but its hard enough killing them with a gun around here, even if you do everything right just because you get him in range and in front of you anything could happen and spook him off before you knock him downI agree. I have the same .410 and similar sight, vortex venom. I’m having trouble getting enough elevation movements. Can’t bring the dot up far enough. Any troubles with this on your setup?Pretty well have quite carrying anything but my 410. Killed two birds with it last season dead as can be. May carry my 28 gauge if I'm feeling it. It shoots amazing with 1 3/8 oz #9.5 with the factory full choke and just the bead. View attachment 60548View attachment 60549

I have the original rail, maybe I should purchase a different mount! I called vortex and they suggested a MOA spacer in between the sight and the mount.Which mount are you using? I have the EGW low profile mount, removed the factory pic rail.
I have heard a lot of issues with guys using the pic rail as it sets so tall.

Thanks for the heads up! I’m hoping the fix vortex suggested fixes the issue. I can’t find cheap .410 ammo so I’m shooting tss and it’s not making me very happy to not be able to get it dialed in. Too expensiveMy dot does set slightly high and right from the perceived center and it trips me out but patterns dead nuts. I remember that the mount for the rails aren't always true to center of the bbl. Saw a 20 gauge one (I believe Devin Duncan's) and the SOB was mounted near 11:30 on the bbl.
