A new style of platform (I think?)

Again great job!

Hey, take this for what it's worth since I'm not an expert in materials... Seems like you gain inherent stability/strength by stacking the two pieces together like you did (single section with a top and bottom). Could you avoid the sound of metal on metal and drop any weight by making each section out of ABS plastic and then joining then together with metal pins when you get to the tree? I'm envisioning 3 or 4 of those sections about 6 to 8 inches long that could be taken apart by pulling a joining pin. Once taken apart, you could nest them together for storage.

You walk up to a tree, pull out the nested sections and assemble (I'm a Legos guy :)) them based on the diameter of your tree. Think there would still need to be some kind of ratchet or OCB on the very back though.

Very cool idea and somewhat reminiscent of the design ideas that came up in a thread several years ago looking for the ultimate platform design. I like the idea from @Red Beard too. I am now envisioning a platform form ring. Lol.

I like it. Do you think it could be cammed over like a WE step if you attached a strap to the top on the outermost part of the platform?

This is what I was thinking

Tried camming it, couldn't get that to work. I couldn't get it tight enough with the Dano strap either.

I got in a tree with it and the Mantis, and man does it work pretty well. If you position the strap towards the top of the posts it does not pull away from the tree at all, no matter what angle you put pressure from. The winged pivot design makes it wrap almost half way around a basketball diameter tree. With a step on the backside like someone mentioned earlier you really could manuever 360 degrees around the tree with ease. Without the extra step you can still swing yourself all the way around to shoot any side.

Weight without strap is 2lb 12oz, making it a pretty light platform.

Red Beard, that sounds like a great idea. Plastic is pretty heavy tho, for the same strength, but I could probably to something like that out of aluminum.

Awesome! That really looks fantastic. I bought some extension ladder locks (Nutterbuster’s fault) and tried something similar a while back. I tried to go to light and didn’t put the posts out on the ends! It might have worked like yours.

That's pretty awesome. A bit premature but how much would you charge to make one? I don't have access to a welder.

Well that's a good question. Probably around $150, but this is obviously in the DIY stages and not weight rated or tested in any way yet, and I have no idea what sorts of testing or certification is needed to sell something like this.

That's cool, just curious. I really like the design and low profile nature. If you need a tester let me know!

Great...yet another item that I gotta have. You guys are killing me.
Put me down for pre order #1.

That looks sweet. Nice job!
And seriously, I want one.

I was just thinking about the conversations we had about platforms and the "vestigial tail" aspect of making them deep instead of wide!

Hats off for the design, @Bradymakesstuff. I'm impressed.

Not to hijack dude's thread...the design touch is great and kudos for the creativity.

But my take on a platform is that unless you have room to stand up on it, why not just use a ROS? The wide/shallow platform doesn't make any logical sense to me whatsoever! Vestigal tail? Give me a break, the pivot shot is a clear fix for one of the big downfalls of saddle hunting. But that's just me, clearly it does to others!

Really nice platform and like the folding concept.

Have you thought about adding grooves to the outside of the platform?
