Alone [don’t read this thread if you don’t want a spoiler]

There’s a lot of skilled guys there but I think Clay is just next level. If he has a bow he has a chance to kill something. He’s not just a survivalist type he’s a real killer.

What’s been interesting to me is the people who have the skills and have made it 30 days while building a nice shelter and getting food....but then get taken out because of stomach issues or some kind of sickness. It’s pretty eye opening because if it was real survival (I mean with no extraction option) these guys would die. They have the skill set and would still have died within the first month or so. Unless they somehow survived through Giardia or stuff like that. You can die so fast out there. You would have to be so careful! It’s pretty scary.

I love the show. I've seen every episode of every season. But is it just me or is this season a little less interesting? Maybe the current cast is less skilled at filming?
I do think the woman is making a big mistake with her hodge podge lodge. Overkill for sure. She needs to produce food, not build a palace with 7 foot ceilings.

No I absolutely agree. I can’t seem to get into it like last year.

I will say; however, I was able to catch up last evening and watch the episode from last week entitled “The Weasel” and to me that was the best episode of this particular series yet.

its good, a bit over dramatized for my liking. some of the stuff the participants do makes me question their "survival skills" though
I agree.
people love dramma.
I believe most contestants are legit but i also believe a few are kind of plants for dramatic things to happen.
nit that i could be or do I want to be sny kind of survivalist. I like to sleep in my bed evety night. Besides I need my cpap machine lmao
ratings are everything with tv shows especially shows like this. They will do things snd say things that are not the total truth to bring dramma to the stage.
survivor was known for doing sketchy things during their years on air.
i believe a few contestants did a documentary about the deceit of that show snd it was buried
Just not my cup of tea.

One thing that I think I would try if I was on there would to make some arrows that I wouldn't have to worry about losing. Just a simple shaft with a little stone blunt and a self nock, maybe tie on a couple grouse feathers.
It gives me the creeps watching them shoot their arrows up into trees. The odds of losing their arrows is too high IMO.

I forget what season it was but, there was a young lady that was absolutely thriving. She had an awesome shelter, had built a sauna, and had a stockpile of food and then just decided she was done. She said it was never about the money to her and she tapped out. Her survival skills were impressive.

Edit: Her name was Callie North and I forgot she also healed infected spider bits with a poultice.

Hope this isn't a spoiler for anyone, she was just an impressive young lady.
that girl was awesome! is she the one with the yurt? I bet on her to win by far

I thought that very thing, get your bow tuned and shooting with your nine arrows and then also build your own completely with natural materials to shoot similar and use those for close range work on small game with just blunt tips. So as a contestant you can maybe bring 7 broadhead tipped arrows and two judo points then immediately make three close range blunt tipped arrows on-site for those shots where arrow loss is likely if you miss.

I think there is a pretty good mixture of reality TV and real life. That some of the more successful participants realized that it is a competition and adapt to it. I think Clay Hayes did really well because he came in prepared to 'compete', not 'survive' if that make any sense. He started learning and researching, went in with a game plan for a competition, not a scenario where you are illogically drop in the middle of the wood with amazingly 10 items that you selected. I remember he said it took him months to gain 30 lbs by start date because he knew he was going to lose weight. That he research dozens of type of snares and traps before he decided on 2-3 that make the most sense for the environment. I remember I could barely recognized him in the beginning because he was so much meatier than his usual videos! Haha

Other people just fell back on their skills that they knew or honed themselves. Thinking that they can adapt because of their toughest. That their will power and can overcome the challenges.

they been out there a month, now its gonna get interesting. the extra fat has been burnt off.

I am in the same boat... I don't find myself really into it this season. I am not sure what's going on, there hasn't been as much danger though. No bears in camp, really. I mean the worst thing that has happened has been stomach issues, right? That doesn't make for good television.

I was telling my woman the other night that I think it's time for this show to jump the shark, change things up. I think they have played out the "professional survivalist" angle, time to get some amateurs on their. Maybe get the past winners to give a 2 - 4 week crash course and set them free. Or select people that don't do this "for a living" so to speak. But do not make it like naked and afraid.
I don't know, something has to change. They have to have a big moment, or gain some momentum or the series is going to die out. I also think they would do well by producing some good online content walking folks through the how-to's and what not.

Maybe it'll get going now that cold is coming and the fat stores have burned off. Just my opinion. I still watch and likely will as long as they keep making it, but they need some fresh thinking on things...

Maybe destination goals? Place them at edge of circle like a clock. Whoever make it to center wins. This would add a mobility requirement to the show. Or waypoints that has items that might help. From what I understand they can use whatever item they found on the field.

They did couples one season, not just male-female couples, they had father-son, buddies, etc. They dropped one of the pair off at the "camp" area and the other was dropped off many miles away and they had to find their way thru all sorts of obstacles to meet up with their partner. I thought that was an interesting twist. Maybe a version of that would add some spice.

I won't compare "Alone" to "Survivor". I do believe Alone is much more authentic. Survivor has always been a bit manipulated and phony but we still watched it with a jaded eye. But that show has gone off of the deep end with all of the woke BS. Seems like each contestant has to check some sort of PC box in order to become a participant. We stopped watching Survivor a couple seasons ago when it became complete garbage.

Yeah when the PC stuff starts..... count me out man. Take a person on their face value and character not anything else. People can't help how they're born. They can help everything else.

I had to stay out of this thread until I caught up, LOL! So I got the History channel app on my phone and then Chromecast it to my TV. Finally got current!
So please excuse me if I do go on...

I'm enjoying the current season, I don't think some of the personalities are as good as in the past seasons...and that's what really makes the difference, in my opinion. Some of these people are just so dry, everything they say there's no life to it. And that gets boring after a while. Others are very good at captivating you, and really bringing you into their world. Those are the ones I like.

Some of these people's shelter building abilities blow my mind! Others, I shake my head when I see what they've got and you see the first snowflakes starting to fly. And then there's bears, good luck keeping them out with your tarp!
Some go wayyy overboard.
The one guy really ticked me off, he hacked down half a forest of the biggest trees he could move, I guess he felt he needed to build the Taj mahal, then just up and leaves!

One of my biggest gripes has been when they put contestants in a place that has strict hunting or fishing regulations. It's ridiculous when a person's in a survival situation and they have to watch viable meat walk away because it's out of season, or they have a perfect place for a gill net, but regulations require fly fishing.

Another thing is the medical removals...I know there has to be a limit, you don't want irreparable damage done. But some of these removals have seemed very questionable to me.

Several seasons have ended by medical discharge that I felt were too early. I’m not a medical expert by any means and maybe I don’t have a place to say. When theirs half a million dollars on the line it should be more up to the person. Also seems women have a unfair attribute seeing it’s harder for them to put on weight and twice women have been next in line to win and lose because of too much weight lose

I would love to see them bring back 10 runner-ups from previous years and do a season for them. Those people were so close to winning 1/2 million dollars, some of them have to be hungry to try again. Plus they all obviously had survival skills because they almost won, so it could be a season where the winner has to last a long time.
