Anybody gone back to mobile stands?

Cool. Thanks.

How about the cables? I'm eager to see how you did that.

ETA: I use the Third Hand Archery stabilizing system to secure the platform to the seat of all my Summit Climbers.

Summit needs some fold flat options. They are missing the target

I just ordered a Summit Mini Viper off Amazon to see how big it would be. I thought it was still too big for me to carry around so I sent it back. I can’t believe there’s not a better climber option. Summit is so far out of the game now...and they’re made in China.

This may sound stupid to some but, I have been experimenting with using and old Millennium stand with the seat removed and my saddle. It is basically like a really large saddle platform. I can stand and lean back in my saddle or sit in my saddle like I normally would. I also can sit sideways in my saddle kind of like a hammock chair. The bigger stand gives me the freedom to comfortably stand and turn around to make shots behind me. I find it to be more comfortable than sitting on the tiny little seat that is on most ultralight stands. I have even done this in a ladder stand lean back in my saddle and rest my knees on the metal seat. I wear a safety strap anyway so wearing my saddle is no different. I am really just using my saddle as a a safety harness. Another kind of A-hole advantage is I hunt in a club so no one will ever get in my stands b/c there is no seat lol. I still saddle hunt using a Eastern Woods Outdoors One Stick a lot but this is just another tool in my box.

I use an old sandcast LW hang-on sometimes. its actually fixed in a tree on some private right now though. But i still wear my saddle if i think i need more swing around space.

And if im biking in most of the way and its gun season i will throw my climber in the cart. That may change though. LAst week was 5.6 miles in and i was biking with the climber on my back. didnt bring the cart. Holy moly i was over it. I got a swing out bow rest/gear hanger thing im going to start using for my saddle setup while firearm shooting. Never felt confident shooting off the bridge past 80yds or so.

Guys go back to convential stands when they finally figure out that these are two completely different ways to hunt.

99% of the time, it is because the expectations are too high for the saddle.

You guys with the .5.....its not a hybrid system. Ok, you can call it that, but it's just a small stand with a fancy RCH. People have been doing it forever.

Platforms limit a saddle. Without darn near 360 degree shootability, as well as the ability to move your profile closer to the tree, you might as well get a conventional stand and wear a saddle just so you can say you do.

With all of the "extras" in padding, ropes, and do dads, you aren't shaving weight either.

I recently tried the LWCG .5 with my saddle. It was okay, but not something I'm going to stick with. Even though the stand is light I still found it significantly more of a pain to hang than a saddle platform/ROS, and the seat, as expected, isn't comfortable to me for more than about 30 minutes at a time.

Between the added hassle of hanging the stand, fooling with a stand, backpack, saddle, and ropes at height, and the temptation to keep alternating between standing, leaning, sitting on the seat, sitting with my knees against the seat, and repeatedly adjusting the tether to accommodate these positions it was too much for my liking.

I also didn't feel as safe as I do in just a saddle. After 14 years of saddle only hunting, I'm very accustomed to the feeling of my tether being under constant tension.

What I was hoping to get out of using the .5 with my saddle was increased comfort and eliminate a weak side. I didn't find a significant improvement in comfort unless I was willing to constantly change positions and weak side is relative to the position I happen to be in when a deer approaches.

Well said, I tried the saddle + hang on and found myself that I move to much going back and forth from "saddle mode" to stand tree stand mode. Other than comfort option it didn't add anything positive after I got HSS harness. For true scout to the tree hunting with a bow I prefer the hang on. The areas I know I can make an ROS work I take that. For rifle I'm 100 percent saddle because I love having the bridge and tree as a brace. Also after reading all the posts about dangers of static falls in a saddle made it easier to ditch the saddle in a hang on.

Seeing a lot of love for the .5, but any other ideas for fellers trying to avoid spending another half-a-grand on hunting gear?…
Honestly, it's your setup. Only you know what your budget is, and what your balance of weight sacrifice/comfort is. I started using a summit featherweight switch with my saddle this season. I use 5 wild edge steps as well. It's obviously much heavier then my setup with a ridge runner platform, but using a xbow this season and longer sits have me just want to be able sit a bit then hang for a while

I just pulled the trigger on a .5 yesterday. See how it goes. I shoot better standing than I do leaning in a saddle. 20 and in it doesn't matter but anything beyond that I'd rather stand. Sometimes like this last weekend the tree I had to be in was leaning back towards me. In my XL I didn't have enough room to stand and shoot with the tree lean.

So when you guys are using the "hybrid method " are you using the side edges of the stand like on a platform? The one time i tried it with a .5 the stand could hardly take side pressure like a small platform.
