I feel normal now as I hate ladders but don’t really have a fear of heights necessarily

I've developed a fear of heights. As a kid I had no fear or even respect for it really... My buddies and I would climb trees as high as we could and swing from branches, jump from second story windows, jump huge gaps/stair sets on skateboards, etc. We thought we were gonna be the next CKY or Jack@ss. There was a 40ish foot (depending on the tide) train bridge over a river in our town that we would would jump from all summer. Flips, gainers, you name it. Had a buddy that would intentionally belly flop off it if you said "you won't"... I don't know when, or what did it for me, but now I can barely climb 10 feet up a ladder without feeling uneasy.

Depends on how secure I feel. I remember sitting in my brother’s homemade ladder stand when I was younger, without a harness, and was scared to move.

I recommend everyone watch Free Solo. Actually rewatched it last night on Disney Plus. Kind of get queasy watching that.

I still have a few CKY VHS tapes laying around lol. Thought I’d be the only person on here who knew about that!

Same here with skating. Zero fear of hurting myself and now all I think about when I imagine doing that is broken ankles and torn ACLs

I think we as people should have a natural, instinctive fear of things which could kill us. Regrettably I don't have that fear of heights in spite of taking several pretty impressive (and painful) falls in my younger days. Falls that I probably wouldn't have experienced if I had a fear of heights. Knowing that I don't have this natural protection against falling has helped to make me more aware that I need to take precautions against falling now since I know I am prone to do dumb things at height due to this lack of fear.

About 15 years ago I was taking down my ladder stand a buddy had setup for me at the start of the season because I was working and couldn't put it up. I didn't notice it had a twist in it and when I unbuckled that strap it launched me like a catapult at about 15 foot high landed on the ground and rolled part of the way down the hill. Ever since then I have been extremely gun shy of stands. Been playing with my saddle stand for a couple months now and this is the first time since then being up in a tree hasn't made me nervous. I guess it's the constant being tethered to the tree and tension on the rope that makes me feel safe with the saddle.

I sometimes get vertigo just going up a stepladder, and doing work up on my one-story roof terrifies me. But I have zero problem being tethered into a tree 30 feet up.

Being in a tree doesn't usually bother me but seeing iron workers on skyscrapers or people hanging off the edge of a crane to take a selfie makes me nauseous.

Used to play on my roof as a kid. Fell and broke my arm once, still climb up that roof the day after I came home from hospital with a cast. To be honest, I was probably too stupid to realized how dangerous it was. Glad I still am.

I would honestly go as high as I can in a tree before the shooting angle is too extreme.

The only time I've ever felt very uncomfortable was sliding down a steep galvanized barn roof on my butt and having a roofing nail catch the bottom of my jeans pocket just as my heels went over the edge. That was the moment that encouraged my use of safety ropes.

As long as I am strapped in I am good. I painted a 3 story house about 15 years ago (college job) and I did not like the ladder work at all.

Very healthy respect for heights. When I get up over ~22' my palms start getting mildly clammy. I started one-sticking last year and i finally learned to trust my gear and just today I made my first sewn eye loop in my main tether/rappel line of Canyon CIV. came out great, but I'm looking at it like "you better hold!!!"

I have a healthy respect for height. On rope I feel secure but do get a rush when dangling 50' up out in space away from the stem. I also absolutely hate ladders. I have been on some pretty high ziplines in Utah that were above the treetops and they were a blast!

After ski ing off the roof at a job 12 years sliding 20 ft in the snow covered roof then a 30 ft drop on some hard ice and concrete and landing like a drunk ballerina and destroying parts of my body and becoming handicapped and having lots of metal in my legs and other areas. I have a healthy respect for heights with that being said nope I’m not afraid but I will take precautions as I climb to hunt at my normal heights of 30+ feet
