Currently trying to decide between the Sitka Gear Stratus set or the Asio Gear Sherpa Lined set. It seems to be closest to the “elite” stratus line by Sitka. Anyone had experiences with both or one? I know the stratus is super lightweight and dead quiet but unsure of the Asio gear. Anyone have experience?

I have other Sitka gear but not the stratus. I did pick up the Asio early season gear and I was so impressed I also bought the mid season stuff including the new Sherpa lined pants and jacket. I will say overall I am more than happy with the Asio gear stuff. I have already had occasion to wear the Asio on a cold very windy day and it was excellent. Asio will be my first choice going forward.

Is the Sherpa lined pant and jacket ultra quiet? I have the scentlok windbrace and the membrane in it is crinkly to me. Outer face is quiet though.

I’ve used the stratus for 6-7 years but decided to try out the Sherpa lined asio this season out of curiosity. I’ve hunted in the asio probably 15x so far this season wore it almost exclusive on my trip to Kansas which was cold and windy. The asio is nice but not the level as the stratus there was a couple mornings in Kansas where it was 20 degrees and 15-20 mph winds with gusts up to 35 where I felt some of the wind through the Sherpa lined gear …the stratus is truly 100% windproof. The asio is also a little more noisy but nothing crazy I shot my buck in Kansas from 5’ up at 10 yards wearing it.

With all that said I’m keeping the the Sherpa lined stuff as my go to though I like the fit and how it doesn’t have that boxy stiff feel I get from my stratus.I’ll still wear my stratus on cold and windy days though which we don’t get alot of in my part of Ohio.

Just what I was looking for, thanks a lot. So in other words you would get the Asio over the stratus if you had to buy just one?

Ive got the Asio sherpa lined pant, jacket, bib and hat and am very happy with it.

That Sherpa jacket fit under your stratus jacket?
I mean it could but would be bulky something like the midi from Sitka or first lite source works great under the stratus …my go to so far this season on those really cold mornings has been the FL furnace either the core warmth vest under the Sherpa jacket

How is the fit compared to the sitka stuff. In the pics it looks like it would fit loose and baggy.

What temps are you planning on using the Stratus for? I have both the Fanatic set, and the Stratus set. If I was planning on 40 and under I would get the Fanatic. 40 and over the Stratus. I wore my Status set last week when it was 36 and 10 mph winds in the face. I had a 200gr set of merino base layers. stratus vest, jacket and pants. I was also wearing my fanatic hoody (pretty much hooded base layer) I was pretty cool when the sun went down. That said it would have been worse if I didn’t have my fanatic hat and neck gaiter in my pack when the sun went down. I do believe if I’d had my Sitka heavy base layer pants on I would have been fine. If you want cold weather gear and can swing it you can’t beat the Fanatic system. I always wear my stratus vest under it in case the jacket gets to be to much when the sun comes out. The zippers on the legs of the bib help tremendously also.

That said, I don’t know a thing about the Asio, but I do obviously wear a lot of Sitka. I’ve probably been given 3k worth over the last few yrs, and it’s good stuff. If I were buying a mild weather set, and a cold weather set. It would be the following:

Mild weather:
75-40
Heavy Base layers for the colder side
Fanatic Hoody
Stratus Vest
Traverse pants
Stratus Jacket.
Stratus pants

40 and below:
I would add:
Fanatic bibs
Fanatic Jacket (zipper and pockets are wired but they are designed for hand warmers to stay warm by air circulating)
Fanatic Hat
Fanatic gaiter.

I also have a Celsius jacket I rarely use, but when it’s 0 to neg temps I wear it under the fanatic.

I also have a fanatic vest I will throw on over the Stratus if a cold front is coming in, and temps are going to be dropping and wind is picking up.
