Ditch my linesmen

How many guys are always girth hitched. I use my linesmen only when climbing up and down. I use three points of contact most times.
I get the risk of falling straight down, and over the past 30 years I have fallen somewhat probably half dozen times. I always catch myself, maneuver in such a way not to cause harm. A bit of a risk taker I know, but I feel safe.
I havnt used a second linesman to go around branches yet...I just hold on. I am going to this year for sure.

I like to read post of you ultra safe guys...keeps me to always think safety first, and I have changed a lot toward safety.
Before saddlehunter.com....yikes :fearscream:is all I can say about my risk taking:fearful:
I've added a tree squeeze to my linesman belt. Came down 4 ft. once (my fault), and wanted to make sure I had better options. It's a little clumsy but safer. It locks you in to the tree if your feet slip and you won't come down. Mine is diy but they can be bought. Be safe

You can get everything from DanO. He has the oplux, jammy and tender I use in my setup. I used the 60 cm jammy, cut off the sewn portion. Below is pic of how much extra I have with each one. I did loose a small bit with an aborted attempt to make a nice end. I cut with tape, heat shrink tubing on rope, crazy glue on end of rope, then heat shrink the wrapping.

If you go this route, I would recommend cutting and removing the stitching so you have nice ends on the jammy. It is so much easier to put that through the heat shrink tub.

Does the jammy cordage not burn well after you cut it?

I just was set on using the shrink wrap this go around. It was impossible to melt on my last cordage cut (armor-prus). I decided to forego any possible frustrations.

Let me see if I understand. You wrap with electrical tape where you are going to cut to keep it from fraying, then you Super Glue the ends to seal them up and keep them from fraying, then you use Heat Shrink Tubing over the tape and Super Glued ends?
Did I get that right?

Yup. Doesn’t need to be electrical tape. Any tape will do.

Ok. Fellas. I've got to make a video, but I've been super busy, and I'm still working out the kinks in this system, but i think I've can make it work.

Run a linesman belt (lb) in traditional fashion, just make it about 12ft long. Using a ropeman or Skylotec Lory Pro (more on that later). Have a extra russik on the lb, this serves two purposes

1) you basically make a buck squeeze so you can never fall more than a few inches.

2) Traversing branches- Take the prussik off one side and attach back to the lineman's belt loop- now you don't need two lineman's belts to traverse the tree.

Note - I work at height and practice 100% tie off so this seems natural to me.

When you get to height take your extra 8 ft if lineman's belt out of your side pouch and run a traditional girth hitch around tree using figure 8 knot that you tied before you got into the woods. Remove the prussik or Skylotec Lory Pro and attach that to your bridge.

Remove lineman's belt portion of your line.

If you were running that extra prussik as a tree squeeze you can now install it on your bridge and now you have an adjustable bridge.

Clear as mud right.

Now more on the Skylotec Lory Pro.

I'm waiting on one arrive from my supplier to try out... So I've been playing with using my Petzl Grillon, but here is where the Lory Pro beats the Grillon, and hands down the ropeman. You can remove and install the Lory anywhere on the rope, you can use it in lineman's belt configuration, you can rapel with it and it has an auto lock and panic brake (unlike ropeman or prussik).

Why is this important:.

Have you ever came down a tree in December muzzleloader season in the dark in Northern VT, just about froze. The ****ering around the the better !

Looks like added safety for a linesman setup could be as simple as adding a jammy and a biner?
Am I envisioning this correctly.

I already have a jammy and biner on my tether as a backup.

another question for you. What kind of Tender are you sporting there? Are those from Dan O as well?

DanO has different tenders. I have his tender/keychain and cut off one end. I do have another order out with DanO where I will get the mini kong tender and I will see how that works.

Well two hunts in and I’m ordering another spliced Oplux. Using linesmen for a tether is a royal PITA.
Not worth the reduction in bulk/weight. Good idea in theory/ bad in application.

The Oplux rocks. I just ordered another to use as a linesman belt. I notice it went up in price about 20% since I purchased my first one a couple weeks ago.

I noticed that too. I was like "wow I didn't realize I spent this much on the first go round"...cuz I didn't.

Where are you sourcing your spliced Oplux? Didn't know any vendor was doing that.

I bought my two on wild edge. Im glad a rm1 fits it.

FroM what I heard the ropeman 1 is only recommend down to 9mm. Need a ropeman 2 for the Oplux.
