First impression of climbing with LW Hand Climber

Yeah, I saw the crimpers for sell. If you make a new cable and can slide them on that will work. I am thinking just about adding some on to fit smaller trees so they would need to be two parts and screwed together. But I haven't used it enough yet to know if it will be necessary.

The Cypress trees in the Everglades are like that there will be huge heads with hundred of trees that it won’t work on. And maybe a couple it will and there never in the right place. I think the teeth on the seat aren’t shaped right for real small trees either.
But the Kiwis will work there.

I tried using my Lw hand climber seat to climb for the first time yesterday. I needed to have my foot straps a lot tighter but other than that really liked it. Still trying to figure out where to put my knees when I pull me feet up. Sometimes it felt like my body was a little close to the tree to be able to have room to loft my legs.

Try it with a bungee, I liked it a lot better.

When I pull my feet up I have been holding myself away from the tree (forearm length), so my knees are not right on the tree.

Is there a video of someone climbing in this style? I tried it the other day with my XOP hand climber and it didn't make much sense to me. It would definitely be the perfect setup if I can get the climbing down without sweating and grunting my way up the tree.

Tried it again last night with a few tweaks, and yep, this works really well. A little awkward, but will get better with practice.
Kinda surprised this isn't more popular. Climbing method and platform in one, public land legal, at only about 5lbs. Plus the platform is big enough that you can stand on it like a regular stand, in case you need to shoot to your weak side or just take the pressure off your saddle for a while.

And you can cut the weight of your lineman's belt as it is not needed with this method. if I had straight branchless trees I would use mine - but I don't so its sticks for me.

One think that can help with this set up is to carry a 15 inch peince of 1 inch PVC,

What is the 15” PVC pipe for?

Why the pvc?

Lol. Had my head spinning trying to figure out how to make that work. You could stick it between your body and the tree to keep from having to hold yourself away when climbing. I just imagined it painful more than helpful.

True statement!every practice climb gets faster and easier.I am using a 5’ foot flat bungee with composite hooks ,I wrap it three x around the platform.2 wraps for toes and one for behind the heels I found the heel strap gives a lot more control during climbing

Yeah, the heel strap is crucial. I have a piece of flat webbing about 3ft long with a buckle on one end, that I use to secure the base of the climber to the tree when I'm hunting. When I'm climbing I wrap that same strap around my heels and snug the buckle up, with my toes in a bungee wrapped twice through the platform.

I might try something on the heel with a bungee.

My concern with a snug strap on both toes and heel is that you're stuck to the platform if you find yourself in trouble. I think I prefer my feet to slide out of the straps if I fall, or something.

So with that in mind, if I was you I'd try strap on toes and bungee on heels.

Although the bungee just across the toes/top of foot has been working nice for me.

I put about 1ft of 1” clear hose on the hand climber’s belt and then climbed a pretty rough tree with it.

Didn’t seem to catch on anything and I didn’t notice and reduction in security to the tree.

I suggest tying some cord to the end of the belt in order to pull it all trhough the hose. It’s a tight fit!

Did it seem to slide on the tree any better and was it quieter.
