Friction Hitches

Fancy! How bad was figuring that one out? Seems like you could tie it pretty quickly once you get it down.

If you wind the climbing line around one side of the loop then pull it tight you get the wraps then it's just a twist, poke it thru the ring, put the rope thru, twist, rope thru again, and back thru the ring. I was pretty sure it could be done but I didn't get time to mess with it until tonight.

You're sayin tie the the first part of the hitch on the climbin rope and unhitch it onto the loop, then give a couple of twirls and a reach around, I mean push through? Ima need to see a video.

I didn’t see the directions, I did it by feeding the rope up from the bottom. Put the loop through the rope and feed the rope behind the ring between the two legs of the loop. Make the twist, counterclockwise sets up the wraps to go around the rope in the desired direction, and bring the rope between the two sections again, and bring the remaining loop through the ring to the front.

Secure the rope to something and push what you got together and wonder what you did wrong. Put a finger behind the twist and pull it sideways, keep the eye in position as you adjust and tighten the wraps up close to the ring.

Once the wraps are set, pull on the eye and move the twist to the middle of the ring.
@Hall17 it is 13 1/2” long.

I tied mine starting on the opposite end of the hitch than Brocky. I wrapped the rope from the top thru the hitch cord. You either have to start offset from the center of the loop to allow for the length in the wraps or dress it to even everything up.

Then pull tight and dress it up. There's some twist in both ropes at this point and it's kind of a pain to get the wraps to lay right.

Twist and pass thru the ring, then pass the rope thru the hitch cord, twist and pass it thru again, then back thru the ring.

Pull it all tight and dress it. The ring seems like it always needs to be adjusted closer to the wraps. It's also a lot easier to keep everything in order and dressed up when the rope is hanging.

@Burk, it looks like the cord only crosses each other in the back. This will work for awhile, but the hitch will start to tighten up with use. It needs one more twist to keep the wraps from binding.

If I didn’t have to throw a rope in the tree I would be rope climbing instead of 2TC, alas, I still gotta get the rope in the tree, so 2TC it is.

That’s the rub right there…plus always having your climbing system with you regardless of if you forgot your 40-100’ of rope and throw all and what not.

I gave up on the throw rope but I still SRT with plenty of presets made with sticks in the summer. I like being secured to the trunk all the way and just rappel down without having to grab a bunch of gear on the way. It isn't a problem pulling your rope down if you have a long enough rope to throw a butterfly in the middle for your cinch and just stay hooked into the correct side of the rope. When you are on the ground you just pull the rope through the butterfly, coil it up and head for home.
