How High in the Tree Were You When You Killed Your Biggest Buck?

I was using my Summit climber and was up about 25 feet in a large pine when 2 does came running by at high speed. I quickly stood up when I heard them coming and they flew past my stand before I was on my feet. But right behind them was a nice buck and he had already passed me before I could draw so I just grunted with my mouth in an attempt to stop him and it worked. He locked up his brakes, turned around, came back and then stopped 7 yards from my tree. I took advantage of it and put an arrow thru the boiler maker. He is a 10 pointer and just clears the 125-inch mark and sits on my wall.
 
I was right around 17' on my best bow kill but the tree canopy where I was set up dictated that height. All things being equal I try to setup between 20 and 23 feet but realistically the height I hunt at is more determined by where the best cover is and best shooting hole availability.
 
20 feet, but it was out of a hang on stand

i set up so that the most likely shot could be taken accurately while seated and shooting to my strong side (left)

nice 8 point came out of the thicket like clockwork and stopped 15 yards away...shot in the lungs/heart while sitting down
 
10 feet up……@ +/- 12 yds w/ longbow.

This was before saddle hunting was “cool”. Shot out of my ole’ trusty Anderson sling!!!!
Not my biggest, just my most memorable!

Somewhere between 19-22’ when I shot my biggest buck, at 25yds. It was maybe 3-5’ too high TBH. I shot right in the V, but the 0.0000025 seconds it took for the arrow to reach his breadbasket felt like an eternity. I don’t feel confident increasing that range at that height, nor do I feel comfortable any higher up at all. Angle becomes difficult and added distance just adds possible error. But everyone needs to have their own comfort zone.

I’ve got one that’s 25’. Talking about a PITA to stand up. It’s been in the same tree for 5 yrs for that reason alone.

Mine was about 14 feet up in a saddle, but only picked that height due to tree structure. The tree had a split and I just hooked my tether in and stood on the branches splaying out and left the platform at the base of the tree
