Due to being so efficient, I have 6 young kids which limits when I can hunt, not complaining, just stating my blessing. With jujitsu class, dance class, soccer practice, etc. It take a lot of planning and sacrifices by my wife to find windows for me to go hunt.

So stars aligned and I'm going out on opening day this Friday. Forecast is rain and possible thunderstorm in the afternoon. Wife said I can keep hunting but I need to get down from the tree if it starts raining.

No, I'm not carrying a bucket with me. Don't have time to go look/buy a stool. so options are:

1) I have a knee cushion, so I figure I can just put it on a fallen log and sit on it. Move a few branches to provide some covers.

2) Also have a platform, so maybe cam it against the tree and us it like a tree seat.

3) Use the same saddle setup but on ground level.

4) Adjust my height and be at 7ft.

Using a traditional bow. At first I was looking at bow stand or hanger for the ground, but I'm not going to overthink this. Just going to lay the bow across my knee.

Since I have never hunted on the ground before, I know a part of me is over thinking this. Ground hunting should be less gear focused and more about staying still and good cover. But beside the basic that I'm reading up on. Any tips or tricks that I should know? So what things should I have with me that would allow me to stay in the same area but on the ground?

Thoughts or opinions?

Right now I'm going with option 1.

Another option is to do some still hunting. A steady rain will help reduce noise and scent.

Saddle at ground is good or like someone else said just still hunt. When it’s early season I don’t do anything to stop from getting wet bc it doesn’t matter. And when it’s under 70 I won’t hunt in the rain at all… but right after is a different story.

I’d suggest a three legged folding stool and a poncho. I have a snugpak patrol poncho I use when it rains, it’s meant to be worn over a pack and I can confirm it’ll fit over a large pack no problem.
Snugpak Patrol Poncho, Waterproof, One Size, Lightweight, Suitable for Hiking, Camping, and Hunting https://a.co/d/7Rsr4TY.
so either a stool or spot and stalk

Black contractor bag, poncho, rain hat, saddle hunt as normal either right off the ground or 1 move or less off the ground and put ur pack inside the plastic bag and wear poncho or set plastic bag on the ground and sit ur butt on something dry with ur poncho on

When you have limited openings to hunt, then you find a way to do so. I hunted a lot in the rain when younger with raising a family and working two or three jobs.. Every minute in the woods is a treasure even if you are soaked completely. Sneaking up on a bedded animal in the rain is a tough nut to crack with a bow but can be done. Personally, I wait the rain out under a tarp because they often move well after a rain.

Maybe it's just me but nowadays I just won't bow hunt when it's a steady rain. A light sprinkle is fine but a steady rain just has too many issues associated with it. For starters, the deer just don't seem to move in a steady rain. And second, if you get a shot off, blood trailing will be near impossible. But that's just me.

Why not climb like normal and use a modified umbrella or one purposefully made for hunting? Are you concerned with climbing safety in wet conditions? https://www.sportsmans.com/hunting-.../big-game-treestands-pop-up-umbrella/p/p36925

I don't personally feel its dangerous to be in the tree during rain unless its really windy. But the balls-keeper still has those typical fear of me getting hurt even after a few years of saddle hunting. To be honest she would be happy if I'm grounded all the time but I love the view from the tree too much to give it up.

Well it now looks like the rain will hold off for Friday. So now don't have to worry about the ground hunting. Just get up in that tree!
