It's just...a little crush... - Review of the JX3 Hybrid Saddle

I have tried for a half an hour last week I had my seat down so I could move my stick and sit.
It really seemed not too difficult after only 30 minutes to try it.
I used the @Cain method

How viable is 1-sticking with the JX3? I have no experience with 1-sticking but I'm trying to think of ways to mitigate the weight of the saddle by reducing climbing system weight on public land.

This is what I am hoping to do as well. I will buy one Muddy stick and go.

I did it a fair amount with a web. It’s not as fluid as with kestrel. But if you want to take a break, you’re sitting comfy.

I’m actually considering building a 4’ climbing stick to use for one sticking as well as a walking stick.

10 cranford rope on steps weigh about 5lbs.

Four stepps and aiders weigh about 5lbs.

Couple options

Good alternatives. I own 4 WEs and aiders and plan on using that as a default. Just wondering if I can get that weight down a little. A 2-2.5 lb stick vs a 4-5 lb WE bag.

Also starting to "see the light" a little more with @Cain's one sticking video. Especially if I can use stick as a platform with JX3. Keeps the overall package weight down and simplifies things in some ways. Excited to try this with my Kite also.

After you see the JX3 you will see you won’t need any additional safety measures the Jx3 seems to be really well thought out piece of gear
I think any additional harness would actually get in the way and make it uncomfortable. You would be sitting on straps and Walmart ever instead of the seat.

So John sent me this response and solution to my problem of releasing the JX 3 with bad shoulders... from hockey and work. . What good service.
He likely read my very recent post and here is what he said.

Here is what John suggested.

Hello my Canadian friend
I am sending you a picture of the adjustment rope I made for keeping the seat up when packing gear in one hand release and adjustable
The loop end goes over the fork and the small hook end has a Prusik knot for adjustment and hooks on the pack frame behind your head and I hang the tag end of the rope over my shoulder for easy access
And it can be used as a gear hanger when looped around the tree
Hope this makes sense

A second text
Yes just hang the loop end over the fork adjust the paracord Prusik with the small hook to the pack frame and pull the tag end of the rope to release the hook and the seat swings down and when you sit down you take the rope off the tree fork
If I get a chance I'll send more pictures of it hooked up
That little rope John sent you is the bomb.....I hook mine to my shoulder strap, than when I'm ready to lower the seat, I unhook from shoulder strap and let the rope stay hooked to fork. After sitting, I remove rope from fork or I daisy chain to make it short while it hangs on the fork.

John did not send me one he sent me the idea and that is ok. The idea is simple. I might make a 1/8 inch Amsteel
Whoopie sling or daisy chain and hook it to my shoulder strap

I tried stick talons.. I took them off. They work but I can put 2 foot sticks on the outside width wise. They fit perfect and do not stick out and the straps that are already on it hold the sticks. I put three Infalt sticks. Next year I am certain I will go @Cain one stick
Seems like you could attach stick talons or similar to the seat frame or molle frame. Having hard parts and webbing there is just so much you can do to customize.

I have tried it but not for long. I am sure it will work. I did it with the leg straps attached which makes climbing a little more difficult but makes the sitting part of one stick pleasant... I still used my bridge to hold the stick like Cain. I will have no time to try it further for a while because of so many commitments getting ready to plant a crop fixing equipment and family and church.

New to saddle hunting. Was looking at guido’s web. Didn’t like the way you had to climb with seat between your legs. This just might be my next purchase.

For those that have been using this, is it possible to stand with the seat up while hunting up in a tree or do you need to have the seat down? I guess anything is possible but wondering if it’s to restricted with the seat up etc

No, seat has to be down so you can be tethered to tree. You have enough adjustments to be able to let the backrest completely out if you like standing. The seat will only hang down to the bottom of your bottom and it will not be interfering with leg movement nor keep you in a bind because of the back rest.

I was able to go and spend some time with John at his house on Sunday. Trust me when I say they are working on getting Hybrids built. It was all hands on deck Sunday afternoon. I’ve been saddle hunting for 15 or so years, I still have my old leather trophy line, The Hybrid is by far the most comfortable stand Ive been in. The attention to detail was unreal. Can’t wait to hunt out of mine this coming year. John has thought of everything and is a great guy to boot.

any idea how it would work if you put a cap on the tree fork so It wouldn't cut into the tree? Thinking for the trees that get sap on everything when you cut into them.
