Kuiu Proximity line.

Well I just placed an order for the pants. Fingers crossed they block the wind good. I'm gunna do a variety of tests at the house for wind resistance before I go out into the woods. I hate the Stratus bibs and the pants idiotically don't have side zips.
If I get even a little breeze through them im sending them back. I'll will never forget how I thought the original FL Solitude set was the greatest thing ever when I got it. And how utterly frozen I was in the tree on a 35° day because the wind blew right through.
Well see

I returned mine. I think there is some refining to be made. They are very comfortable. But I will wait it out for an updated set.

What is it that turned you off?

Needs to block wind better. The magnets holding the hood in place suck. There are 3 magnets you need to stick inside a little pocket plus a zipper. Also would be nice to remove the fleece from the lower part of the leg like the fanatic material mapping to keep the burrs at bay. For cold weather garments I prefer bibs. So….I would like to see bibs or the pants come up even further in the back to have more coverage on my lower back. Also, the facemask thing they need to mesh the mouth/nose so you can breathe.

But… mostly it needs better wind blocking ability.

I figured that would be the case. Unless they specifically advertise in giant letters WIND PROOF it almost never is

Breathability and Windproof are polar opposites in my brain…

Got the set tonight, and as I figured utterly useless. Wind resistance sucks. The beanie and gaiter are a total waste. The sitka windproof beanie and gaiter are so far ahead it's hilarious.
The jacket is really well designed and the fit is awesome. Articulated sleeves as well as the cuff around the wrist that seals it tight. But then pointlessly on the bottom half of the sleeve about the first foot from the cuff there's ZERO insulation and zero wind resistance. You can see the seam in the photos. I can blow air through effortlessly in that spot.
The pants I like better than the jacket. They may be a bit too big for me at 36, but at 34 I know I wouldn't be able to layer much of anything. The pants don't feel constricting and the pocket layout is great.
Unfortunately as I started with, they are not windproof like enkriss said. Non windproof deer hunting cloths are absolutely useless. I'll give them some credit as you do need to give a good huff to push are through them, but you certainly can push air through. The big bad wolf who ate the little pigs couldn't push air through the Stratus set.
As far as insulation they do feel like that inbetween of the Stratus and Fanatic.
I'm sending mine back except maybe the pants as I know either next season or after that Kuiu will take consumer feedback into account and make them windproof. At which time I will certainly be first in line. I'll only keep the pants to try them as I hate bibs and am sick of my stratus ones
I learned my lesson with the FL solitude when that first came out how important for your outer layer to be windproof is.
I thought it was the best whitetail jacket ever made. I got out into 35° woods with a stiff wind and still can't recall a time I was ever that cold and shivering. IMG_20221028_193454_compress24.jpgIMG_20221028_194851_compress99.jpg

Bump. A friend of mine got a set of these last season and was really pleased with them. I am debating on getting these and adding and extra wind layer as necessary or going with the wind stopper fleece as an outer layer and sticking with my standard base layer, mid, and puffer layering system. I really like the look and features of the pants too.

Anyone else on here have actual experience with the jacket? Could you tell us what layers you were using, how far was your walk and climb to stand, did you put these on at the tree? Temp, humidity, and wind approximately or state or region of hunt. Also, are they as quite as normal fleece?

I used them all last November. My post above was late Oct before I got use on them. The jacket is stell meh, but the pants are amazing and have completely replaced my late-season bibs. The jacket is designed great, but I constantly felt the wind in the arm and shoulder area. It needs a dedicated wind barrier. I add I needed the jacket replaced. I threw it in the wash the day after I killed my buck as it was soaked in blood. When it came out a bunch of stitching above the right pocket came undone and left a huge hole in the jacket. Kuiu replaced it at no charge. I have seen multiple other posts of people's durabilty concerns. I used the set generally between 30-50. Had the FL source on as a mid layer and the FL furnace pants on under the pants. Anything under 30 I got chilly with the set and broke out the fanatic set.

How do you guys think the proximity set would work for western hunting where a lot of miles will be walked? Like 5-10 mile days.

I wouldnt just based on the durability of the pants. They're not brush busters whatsoever. I've seen quite a number of posts on archerytalk of ripped pants going through some pretty mild stuff
