Linesman's Belt gadget....

You could try finding a cordura chafe sleeve or a heavy duty chafe sleeve(not sure of material) to fit your linemans belt. I

G2 what didn't you like about the Ropeman 2 for the lineman's belt? RS I never had as much luck with the lineman's belt as a rope compared to the strap, the rope tended to slide down before I could get it taut where the web would cling and slide less. I have a lineman's rope coming from New Tribe so I will let you know how that works when I get it.

Roger,

I think you will find that a rope belt with a chafe sleeve works really well, which is what comes with the new tribe linemans belt. The chafe sleeve has much more surface area and catches better on the bark versus just a rope.

I have one being delivered on Thursday I will let you know how I like it Derek. Thanks

It was nearly impossible to loosen it. The Ropeman 1 is MUCH BETTER as a lineman belt.

thanks for this idea. I just switched mine to the Ropeman.I also bought a new rope man for climbing my rope too. It has to be better than climbing with a foot loop on a Prussic . Thanks again

G2 I know this post was from a while ago but I talked with a couple of people about the Ropeman 2 and the reason it didn't work for you was because it is designed for smaller diameter ropes if I remember correctly they said up to 8mm to 13mm and the Ropeman 1 10mm to 13mm so if anyone gets it just make sure your using a smaller slicker rope. I hope the system is working well for you I have two Ropeman 1's coming on Friday and will be using them to replace the Blake's hitch on the lineman's belt and the tree rope.

Roger

The reason it didn't work was because the Ropeman 2 has teeth that bite into the rope. The make it very difficult to adjust after you've locked it in the first time. The Ropeman 1 simply crushes the rope without the small teeth biting into it. The Ropeman 1 is PERFECT for a lineman belt.

Hey Guys,

I now have a Ropeman1 on both my tree rope and my lineman's belt and they are so smooth and easy to use it is incredible, I wish they sold a camo version but I'll deal with it because of the ease of adjustment and use.

Thanks, Roger

Hey Justsomeguy and co,

I'm relatively new to the saddle game, and getting set up w/ my own rigging for an evolution tree saddle (tree strap and lineman's belt) w/ ropeman ascenders, and I'm wondering about the length and qlty of the rope I've got. I know this post is old as the hills, but folks seem to hop on from time to time to chime in, so maybe someone can help.

How long should the linemans belt and tree straps be, once all is said and done?

I picked up a length of 15' of Samson Vortex from wesspur. http://www.wesspur.com/items/vx15.html It seems pretty rugged, and I'm hoping it will work well with the ascender.

Do you think I can make a strap and a lineman's belt out of 15'? Maybe 7 or 8' for each? If not, I was thinking of getting some of this static climbing rope to fill in (as it is sold by the foot) http://www.rei.com/product/472013/pmi-e ... #tab-specs

Whatcha think?

Thanks for all. This forum is amazing, and I love seeing all the creative stuff you do.

My lineman a belt/rope is finished after knots tied in 7ft. That's what I used for hanging locons. This will be my 1st year in a saddle so maybe I won't get into trees that need 7ft of linemans belt??? I made my tree strap with the same size trees in mind, so it's finished length is around 10-12 ft. 7ft to go around the tree with 3-4ft hanging. I also use the ropeman on each. Figured I could always cut it if it's too long. Remember tying loops and knots take up a lot of rope length. So figure at least a couple extra feet in for them.

That's helpful. Thanks.

Where did you get your ropeman from? I've been having a hard time finding them online (seem to be in the UK mostly).

Thanks again,
J

Your 7 foot lineman's belt will probably be fine. I use webbing for my tree strap but I use a 12 foot piece to ensure I always have enough.

That's a good deal.

I've been using the Ropeman 1 for a long time now. It is EASILY one of the best upgrades you can make to your saddle. Some folks use it to tie into the tree at hunting height. I use it for my lineman belt and it can't get any more user friendly. If you aren't using one, you should be.

Got my ascenders today and hooked them up. They are awesome. When used as line mans belt, grab the tag end and push it towards the tree and it advances the ascender, shortening the rope. To let out rope grab the back of the tree with your free hand, take weight off the rope and release the ascender as needed. When you let it go, it grabs NOW.

Just bought me a ropeman 1 from backcountry. Planning on using it with my tree rope. Can't wait to get it and try it out. Good luck to everyone this season!
