Oh yes I am hooked on the saddle!! It’s so much fun. Been hunting for about 20 years but just getting into the saddle game and hunting public since we moved to Kansas.

Have a scrape below me that hasn’t been opened since snow yesterday. Probably one of my last few bow hunts so any standards have been tossed out the window. There’s a one horned spike in the area that better not show his face.

came through just after sunlight and broke my heart at 32 yds. Gotta get my damn pole saw out again…he was at 24 with twigs in the way

My wife texted me a few minutes later, “maybe he’ll come back”. So I waited because wifey knows best. 10:15 my fingers are so red from cold and my arthritic toe is screaming for relief, I decide to get down. Back to the truck, oh crap I meant to put that memory card back in that one camera, lemme nock an arrow and sneak back to it right quick; wouldn’t you know who popped his 12-14” tines back up over the brush within 20 yds? The same buck. He did indeed come back, conveniently 5min after I was gone. Thankfully he didn’t blow at me but his hooves sounded like a hardback dictionary slamming shut as he bounded back through the thick stuff. Heart broken twice in 3 hours.
Moral: Wifey knows best.

Yep that’s what I think too. Absolutely dismal feeling. I’ve seen this deer before, so I’m hoping 4-5 days away from the woods might keep him cooler.

How’s the hunting been in DE? I had to move to OH two years ago, haven’t hunted at home since early 2020.

Just got home from 11 days in southern Illinois. Was a humbling hunt yet learned I have to remind myself to be patient and let the deer do what they’re going to do at times.. Still managed to bring home 2 bucks and a doe. Buddy with me got a buck and doe. All diy public land.
