We have had all three varieties here also now that you mention them. I have just been lumping all of them into the horse fly category, lol. I went out Saturday afternoon to pull a camera's card and put out another and they were bad. We got a good bit of rain last week and the skeeters were out in force too, along with the ticks. I found 6 ticks taking a stroll on my permethrin coated scouting pants.

Yea we went for a 3 mile little hike through a state park last weekend and pulled 4 ticks off the wife and 3 off the kids. There was only 1 freeze all winter long here so the bugs are going to be awful this season
 
Same here, although we may have had 2 freezes. I just don't get why the ticks were strolling around on my HEAVILY treated scouting pants. I use them for turkey hunting, and I soaked them in a heavy dose of permethrin just before turkey season. I mixed my own from concentrate I got at the coop in a big pump sprayer and laid it on thick. I need to restock on the Deet 40%. One good thing though, I got most of my scouting done post season before the green up, so I won't be out in it so much this summer.
 
Yellow flys are a different animal (insect).... Very aggressive... They chase u down from a long distance. I have very vivid memory's of riding 4wheeler and looking over my shoulder and seeing hundreds of them following. When I was younger I would have major swelling at the bite but I must have developed a tolerance over time and rarely swell up now a days....got tagged in the tallywhacker once...uncomfortable but impressive results
 
Ha! You should buy that and wear it hunting. Just imagine if someone got you on trail camera in that. You would probably not see them back in that area again.

Was it a recent mix or was it from last season? I used distilled water with my mix last year and had plenty left over. I treated my clothes the other day and noticed weird moldy looking stuff in the liquid. I disposed of that batch and will make another before season. That got me wondering if it has a short shelf life

I tried an experiment just now, and I am not happy with the results.

My wife just picked a dog tick off her dog. I wanted to show her how effective the gamehide tick killing clothes are.

I brought down a pair of gamehide pants. Put the tick on it. It crawled around a few minutes unaffected.

Then I got my sawyers liquid and completely doused a patch of fabric and let it dry in the sun.

Went back outside and put the tick on 2 different pieces of gamehide clothes. It was crawling around unaffected.

I then put the tick on the recently doused fabric and guess what, it crawled around on that completely unaffected. For at least 3 or 4 minutes. A deer tick would not have lasted more than about 15 to 20 seconds.

I kept it on that patch for almost 5 minutes. Totally unaffected.

Then I directly sprayed the tick with sawyers, twice. Same thing, crawling around totally unaffected.

Then, after a few more minutes, I went thermonuclear. I sprayed so much sawyers on it that I got it completely submerged in the liquid. Even then, it crawled around for another minute before finally giving up the ghost and dying.

This is not good.

Did any of the ticks you picked off look like a dog tick? Like the pic I posted?

I am hoping it is only the dog ticks that are permethrin resistant.

Yes, 5 looked like the one you posted, and one was one of those tiny seed ticks.
