We always called those “deer flies”…and the green heads “horse flies” and the big black horse flies B-52’s. Whatever you call them, they suck! Have a good Memorial Day! Remember those that gave all to keep this country great!Yellow flies and sand gnats…
Yea we went for a 3 mile little hike through a state park last weekend and pulled 4 ticks off the wife and 3 off the kids. There was only 1 freeze all winter long here so the bugs are going to be awful this seasonWe have had all three varieties here also now that you mention them. I have just been lumping all of them into the horse fly category, lol. I went out Saturday afternoon to pull a camera's card and put out another and they were bad. We got a good bit of rain last week and the skeeters were out in force too, along with the ticks. I found 6 ticks taking a stroll on my permethrin coated scouting pants.
Same here, although we may have had 2 freezes. I just don't get why the ticks were strolling around on my HEAVILY treated scouting pants. I use them for turkey hunting, and I soaked them in a heavy dose of permethrin just before turkey season. I mixed my own from concentrate I got at the coop in a big pump sprayer and laid it on thick. I need to restock on the Deet 40%. One good thing though, I got most of my scouting done post season before the green up, so I won't be out in it so much this summer.
Was it a recent mix or was it from last season? I used distilled water with my mix last year and had plenty left over. I treated my clothes the other day and noticed weird moldy looking stuff in the liquid. I disposed of that batch and will make another before season. That got me wondering if it has a short shelf lifeSame here, although we may have had 2 freezes. I just don't get why the ticks were strolling around on my HEAVILY treated scouting pants. Cool thing is that game wardens don't wanna catch poachers when it's 90-something degrees outside with 102% humidity and a 75% chance of death by horse fly
Yes, 5 looked like the one you posted, and one was one of those tiny seed ticks.Did any of the ticks you picked off look like a dog tick? Like the pic I posted?
I am hoping it is only the dog ticks that are permethrin resistant.
Lol he was hog hunting on a private lease which is legal year round down here…. That doe had a ridiculously long face to me though… like beetle juiceCool thing is that game wardens don't wanna catch poachers when it's 90-something degrees outside with 102% humidity and a 75% chance of death by horse fly
