Me too at Plebe. Me too!! I’m a dumb a$$!
I've thought the new setup urge, may not make it until spring..

Observation sit tonight, decent sign and I know they're in the area. Definitely bumped one on the way out. Interesting climb down with 3 limbs i had to go around to be sure my rapel line would come down. In the dark. Speaking of stupid things to do, why don't I put a light in my pack? Duh

That makes sense. Few years ago I went to get down and realized I forgot my headlamp. Lucky I had just put my trophy line quiver on with the green light on it. So used it to get out.

Generally speaking, expect to do dumb things and figure out ways to overcome. For example, I climbed SRT last year, was in a tree for an evening sit and planned to use the same tree in the morning so I left everything but my bow in the tree.

As soon as my feet touched the ground, I realized I left my ascender and foot loop in my rope bag…25’ above me. When I got back to the cabin, I had to rig an ascender and foot loop with what I had in my saddle bags. Next morning, I climbed using what I rigged and had no further issues.

First time out yesterday. 88 degrees. I was soaked by the time I got up in the tree. It was really a shakedown trip for me. New packing in with my mystery ranch 28 carrying everything. Saddle, sticks, platform and goodies.

Good points:
Like the way I have it packed. So easy to carry. Thanks guys for the backpack picture thread a while back.
Sticks. First time with diy aider and skeletors. They work well. Gotta get used to amsteel instead of a strap. Throwing it around the tree is a little harder.
New equipment holder. It's a simple HME. I like it too. 3 hooks and done.

Not so good points.
DIY LB. Made a new one. Rope is too slick for my hands. Any sweat and i cant grip well and my hands slide. Sat at the top and ordered a tethrd LB as soon as I got settled.
Bow rope and pack rope. Used paracord. Gotta lower slow or I get burnt.

Actually all went pretty well. Still working on my steps to do things. Like, I gotta pack my saddle in the backpack before putting my sticks in the meat carrier spot. But just not rushing.

Question for any skeletor owners. Are you able to get the amsteel to stay level with the stick after you set the stick? Mine still drops some with an angle.

It was great to be back in the tree.
Good luck to all.

That’s key. If you can train your brain to just slow down. Things typically go smoother. There are times I start to rush and I have to remind myself just slow down

So true. Now that the kit is getting squared away, it's all about calculated movements.....the less of them the better. The key is building your own sequence so it seems second nature.

Nicely done! Though I'm wondering about your math. Who are you giving the other 4 points for your doe to?

Thanks! Bucks are worth 1 point per antler pt and does are worth 1 point each. All heads are deposited at State CWD testing site. I will donate all meat locally except any that is Positive for CWD. That meat, I will donate to the homeless shelters near the hospital parking lot in which my truck was recently broken into.

Are you talking about a different contest? Because the one on here is baseline 5 points for any deer +1 per antler point for the buck... You're shortchanging yourself on the buck AND the doe. Thankfully none of us needs to keep score, I hear the mods just make it up ;)

Shhhhh!!! I know this isn’t the trash talk thread but his math is perfect if he’s on a different team.

In a tree in Kentucky on some public. Hunted the opener and got skunked… back up here yesterday and had a good 125in 3 year old 9pt come within 15 yards. He’ll be really good next year.

Back in the same tree this evening. There’s several good 8’s in here and a giant 10. Its real calm down in this draw. Bedding is above me and not far away. They’ll drop down where I’m at on the way to the beans tonight. A little wind blowing up high. They started moving around 6:30 last night.
