LIVE from the saddle 2023

Quick after work dash to public & up a tree with JX3 sticks that were delivered today. Quick judgment is that this is a significant upgrade from the ROS I was using, and packing on the back is way better than the sling of sticks in the front that I previously used. Now for some deer to choose this swamp edge to browse along.

I can’t believe myself but here I got all settled in and just spied a stand not 50 yards north of me! I’ll give it a couple hours at least before moving…

Got my first bow kill today - sow at ten yards! Sadly I hit her thru the guts so when I got to her, she had swollen a lot, and during field dressing, I carelessly knocked her intestine and it spilled. Most of the meat was unrecoverable…

My wife has school drop-off today. I made my daughter a special daddy lunch last night, and she said she’d “send me a big doe deer to shoot” if I didn’t forget to give her a hug early AF this morning before leaving. Good vibes in, right? Got up in the tree 10m before sunrise but the woods are quiet enough. Deer are probably all in the field to my east lol. Still good vibes. NE-SW cross-wind has me a little sketched, though I’m hoping they come from S-N or N-S between bedding. I can hear my Aussie yelling at something as he does his morning business. Fingers crossed for a freezer queen!
 
Man the deer are straight up ghosty today. Button buck came in dead down wind of me, snacking on acorns. I didn’t see or hear him until he was within 20 yds. Snapped a video and some pics when all of a sudden a yearling doe materialized at 30yds from the opposite direction, bolted right under my platform and chased that little guy off. Then her sister was suddenly RIGHT THERE bleating and chasing the first girl in figure 8’s all around me. I had a hunch momma would show up, and a few moments later SHE materialized at just over 30 yds. Grabbed the bow, waited for her to get to my shooting window at 22, then she just didn’t. All 4 deer dissipated with the wind.
5m later that button buck came out of hiding and browsed in front of me then kinda just did little buck stuff for a bit. While I was watching him, I heard something to my left and those three does had snuck to where the buck was before, snacking on acorns themselves now. Both yearlings offered shots but mom never did. They moseyed away unscathed. I have about 30-45m before I have to get down, be an adult and prep for an Airbnb guest. If I shoot something in the meantime, he and his wife are getting some venison as a “housewarming” gift hahahahaha.

That is why I am always scent controlled clothing up. Fresh dirt cover sprays, merino, and nose jammer boot spray have saved the day more than once. When was the last time the weather man was right? Good luck out there.

Have you tried weather.com?
It is alot more accurate for wind direction then Hunt Stand..
