Louisiana meet and hunt

So what are the top three public land spots that everyone would really enjoy getting together on to hunt?

I’m on the west side of the state. National Forest is good. Don’t overlook the WMAs. Most have primitive campgrounds. Maybe pick 3 and put it to a vote

I agree. I’m in natchitoches so anything within a few hours is good for me. Just need to see everyone’s suggestions and we will go from there.

It’s difficult for me to commit due to caring for my ailing father, but I’m interested and would like to meet and hunt. I live near Thibodaux. I’ve gone out to Clear Creek WMA the last two years and hope to go again next month. Archery opens September 19..

I’d be interested in this as well depending on when. I live in DeRidder but don’t mind driving.

Yes unfortunately I am lol I like hunting polk and Peason both. There’s a ton of deer in both areas, I’m assuming bc 3 weeks out of the month both are usually closed for training.

Ok everyone, my thoughts would be Kisatchi, either Big Lake or Tensas, and my last thought would be either Clear Creek or Dewy Wills. Anyone else have any suggestions?

Richard k yancey just because it a big public chunk if your willing to fight the crowds. And plus it’s a little closer to where I live. Round robin public land hunting party????

That is one consideration for sure. I’ve never hunted that place before.

Another thing we need to figure is are we wanting to bow hunt or gun hunt, early season, rut, late season.

I’m completely up for bow hunting not much on gun hunting. Only thing about Richard k is if the river jumps way up again they’ll shut it down.

Hopefully that doesn’t happen. What time of season would everyone prefer?

I would prefer to bow hunt before any of the gun or primitive weapon hunts. I know Tensas get loaded during the hunts. Buckhorn is another state WMA that produces great bucks. It’s located between Tensas and Bayou Cocodrie NWR. The state lands see more pressure during the gun season than the NWR.

Yes Big Lake borders Tensas and has just as good a hunting with a more liberal gun season. I only mentioned Buckhorn because it hadn’t made the list yet. The refuges in the Delta are all top notch.

Tensas probably gets the most pressure and from what I hear bighorn gets bad too during parts of the season. Richard k has its spurts where it stupid crowed with very uneducated “hunters”.

So is there a way that I can make a poll for everyone to check what top three they would like to hunt, kinda like Facebook does?
