Mathews VXR versus V3 advice

Thanks for all the help guys, hopefully I can get down to the shop today or worst case scenario Thursday, yes this is a bit of mind overload I haven’t researched bows in forever I’m a gun nut and spend all my free time handling rifles, this will be my first bow with a D loop to give you an idea of how old school I am, my release is a C 10 Winn Free Flight, which is probably not going to work with a D loop I need their loop hook model and it looks like Winn has been out of business for 5 years or more hopefully I am wrong I really like my free flight, so some big changes headed my way hopefully I can keep my anchor point the same with a new release or else I mite be reluctant to switch anything up, I anchor that Winn in the corner of my mouth and touch the string on the tip of my nose, well I gotta get to work I’m late hopefully I can get down there today.

Gun analogy.
You are in the weeds data wise on a new hand load right now and worried about barrel length and twist rate. Let’s say you have a tried and true Remington 700 in 308 that you have had for ten plus years. The new model you want is still a Remington 308 it’s just you are anxious about having to develop a new recipe and figure out what ammo it likes the most, etc.

Yes it is a process. But, the process is fun and it’s our hobby. But either way you still have a good set up now you know or you get a new model you have to figure out. It’s a win either way from what I’m reading.

New Remington

Seems like Topdog likes a grab and go bow, but I agree the work up phase is valuable time spent.

These last couple of posts make me wonder.....we've headers for traditional and compound bow topics...is there a gun/optics topic section? If not, should be.

FWIW I bought a VXR 31.5 last year and I love it. I wouldn't hesitate to get a left over model at a good discount. I also shoot a Whisker Biscuit on mine and have no problems with how it looks. Most simplistic and reliable rest on the market.

I just meant the 700 action. But maybe a proof barrel and a new folding chassis or whatever is cool now in Recoil magazine (aka the new V3 model) even though none of us will ever be better than Carlos Hathcock with a Woodstock .30-06issued to him in the 60’s.

Go with which one feels good in the hand. If you could, put a blind fold on and shoot both and go with what feels good. If you go in with the idea that you like one over the other you might lean that way. When really you like how the other bow shoots. Find your happy place. Imagine your in the woods, there is a nice buck walking by, draw and shoot. Which one feels better. That's the one you want. The one that gives you the confidence to make the shoot every time. IMO.

I knew what you meant. Was just having a bit of fun over the current state of affairs at Remington. Sad really.

I don't envy the kind of hunting Hathcock was up against. Deer don't shoot back...and you can even get away with blue snuggies on stand.

I like the rifle analogies!!! Work is going by fast today, if jewell or timney made a bow release that’s probably what I would chose lol.

Triggertech and Timney make triggers for Xbows.

Winn is still in business fyi

All great advice and I agree. My only thing is @Topdog has been bowhunting long enough to know how to shoot and although bow feel is super important, I also think many of us can shoot many different bows and still be effective but also like the bow. I say go with what you want at your experience level not just what feels good to shoot. You will be happier in the long run IMHO.

The overall thread consensus is we are all rooting for you @Topdog.
Heck, once you’re in the store, just start posting real time here and we can all support you with real time internet opinions. Hahaha. We haven’t even started debating color options yet. I mean come on. It has to be First Lite Spectre to match all this years best camo ever invented. Then we can help you spend a grand on first lite stuff. This is so much fun.

It definitely has to match my green and black wool shirt I wear!!!

Best news I have heard today I am going to call them ASAP when I pick a bow out, I love my Winn and it would be nice to keep one thing the same, everything I found online looked like they were closed, Plebe I had no idea Timney made a release that’s awesome! Timney is my favorite trigger followed by Jewell, a reworked 700 by the right person can be just as good, especially the old Walker style.
