So after switching to using bolts for a climbing method its had me thinking about my linemans belt. I know some guys on here use a tree squeeze and those look like they would be great to have in the event of a slip but at 169 bucks I feel like with a little thought it could be made instead of bought. Any of yall made something like that? Seems like all it would require is a typical linemans belt with two additional prusiks, 2 carabiners, and some line or webbing that could be slid in tight to the tree between moves. I could just climb with the tether but I 1 stick climbed for a lot of years and I dont like the extra wear on the tether and it can get a little noisy on rough bark trees.

There's some info in this thread about @donnieballgame "poor man tree squeeze" and a little talk about the "flingin x"
I wondered what roused that thread ffom the dead!

FWIW, the flinginx and the PMTS do not function quite the same (or work as well) as a treesqueeze imo. I've played with them all. A 2 piece design like the ts really squeezes the tree and puts the breaks on a fall before it even happens. It's just clumsier to move up a tree than a normal linemans. Steel core helps a lot, but is expensive and adds weight.

The extra weight thing could be offset by using the device as a linemans and tether. It would also reduce hip pinch for those tbat suffer from it. I've played with some prototypes, and have parts in my amazon cart to order at some point. Just have other irons in the fire.

I've been interested in this for a while now. Glad I'm not the only one.

I plan on playing around with them this Summer to see which one works better. I also considered using an adjustable bridge and a linesman belt to make something closer to a tree squeeze.
