New Gear for 2023, Go!

They came out last summer. I know 3 people that bought them all had the same complaints. Wobble in the steps, glossy finish, Noisy loose stacking with that tiny button inset inside the stick.

Any idea on what the wall thickness is on the aluminum tubing?

No, when I start the climb I have the platform tilted up as much as possible. The platform always levels out before I get high enough. Maybe the trees around here taper to quick?
Also I want to hunt deer, not trees.

I use to carry a climbing stick with me to get over the crown on the bottom of the tree. I gave up climbers long ago an vowed not to go back.

Are you sure you were replying to me and not the next question?
In all reality, I have never used or seen a climber and thought they couldn't really handle side pressure because of a lack of a tensioned strap.

Climbers have always seemed useless to me but I suppose it’s a regional thing. Seems like a tree suited for a climber would also be ideal for one sticking or 2tc. Way cheaper and probably more versatile options.
With a climber, I always felt like I was limited by the trees I could setup in, and almost felt like I was "hunting for a tree" instead of hunting in the exact spot I wanted to be in. If I did a great job of scouting and found a really good area to setup in, I often struggled to find a tree that would handle a climber and it always felt like a compromise when using one. I don't get that feeling with sticks and a stand or saddle and can pretty much setup in any reasonable tree; hardly ever the case with the climber. I sold both my climbers years ago and will not be going back.

Generally I agree with your thesis.

However, I do find those techniques a bit more difficult on big trees, personally. I've definitely maxed the LW belts out and been up those trees lickity-split. You can probably manage a bigger tree with the other methods, but on a climber suitable tree, for me, I prefer a good climber going up.

Another thing is that climbers inherently offer plenty of standing room as well as a seat, possibly even a comfortable one, with no kneepads or knee fatigue. You don't even have to season that steak.

But the other methods are vastly superior in bulk and weight and versatility. The specific components forming the rest of the discussion.

I can have my pick, and sometimes it's still my climber...platform, lol.

I have areas I cannot hunt the way I want with a climber. And I have some where to climb to my intended height would take a truck load of sticks. It's situational, but I've never felt encumbered by a climber, knowing what I'm getting into.

What's changed (to me) is how light stands and climbing methods have become. (and how much older I am). Hard to justify the effort it takes to haul an 18lb climber 3 miles in and out when there's much lighter and more streamlined methods.

I think this new LWCG stand closes the gap in weight and bulk, at least on stick and stand sets, but it gives up some of that cozy climber goodness.

Sounds like they'll be offering a bigger version in the future. But at more weight and bulk, the ball just doesn't seem to have room for much forwards movement.

Thoughts around the new latitude sticks? Wondering if anyone went to the expo in TN n had a chance to see them. I have beast sticks. But im torn between tethrd ones or the latitude sticks. Wanting to go latitude n stay made in USA but idk.

Tethrd sticks: An actual known entity with all sorts of confirmed positive feedback, photos and end user opinions/modifications.

Latitude sticks: No known data. No end user data available as of late June 2023. No confirmed feedback, photos or end user opinions or reviews available (yet).

Your beast sticks are amazing and proven. I also have four full size beast sticks and love them. They work well but weigh a bit more than the Tethrd or Latitude sticks.

You already have a set of solid and reputable sticks. I would stick with those (see what I did there?) and wait for the initial reviews of the Latitude sticks to come pouring in before you make a decision. If you feel you can’t wait, at least the Tethrd sticks have the proven data available to fall back on so that if you do get them, you at least know what you are getting.

I promise there will be numerous sets of latitude sticks for sale in the classifieds section here by early August if you want some.

I have the tethrd Gen3 One sticks. Began using them the last part of the 22 season. They rock so far. I’ve been one sticking for three years and am probably not going to this year because of them. I also have the OG Shikars which are also very light and stack up well but a lot of fiddle factor. I also owned the Stacked Outdoors polymer sticks which were also very heavy duty and worked great but they were too bulky and heavier than other options.

Too much material behind the pivot point. Like half the platform. Weight there it’s folding. How is the machining work on yours? The one he has in this video is terrible.
The machine work on the one they sent me isn’t perfect like my Fix, but it looks way better than what his does in that video. We are giving the platform away at our SH3D tournament on the 22nd. Seeing all this has me nervous. My experiences with XOP have always been really good, but they do have a new gear designer over there…

You could suggest to cut off an 1 or so of each triangular tip?

Man down here in Alabama there are so many nice straight trees. To me a lightweight climber would beat the pants off of one sticking. You put the climber on the tree. Climb which takes minimal effort and is faster than probably any other climbing method. It can also be pretty comfortable. It’s a seat and platform all in one. And…it’s not lightweight, it’s bulky, and can be loud. I haven’t watched that video yet so I’ll have to see what they’ve come out with. Everything’s so expensive now. I don’t have a $1k for a tree stand. My old API Grandslam I got back in the late 90’s was so comfortable but it was so heavy and huge.

I heard a rumor that LWCG may have a 4th of July sale. But don't tell anyone!
