I would like to try it. But I just know the aider right up against the tree is gonna be a pain in the ass.

I don’t think there is a climbing down that. That’s rappel down for sure.
Yeah, I gotta wonder about the lack of offset from the tree. I started experimenting at one point with a sailboat mast ladder and always thought some sort of carbon fiber block as a "standoff" top and bottom would be slick if you coule find a way to keep the ladder tight...but im not sure it seems feasible.

some sort of soft ladder might be on the winter project list this year....
 
@grayskwerel told me he has an ultra light and heavy duty version of the Sladder. The heavy duty will keep the loops open much better is what he emailed me when I inquired.

That’s what the top two steps are for. The bottom three steps will be find because you’re far enough away from the attachment point. If you had to go to the top then you would have difficulty getting your foot in. But like I said at that point you step in the to saddles on the side. I don’t think foot clearance would be as much of an and issue as y’all might think.
 
I will be honest here. A cam cleat click on thin walled hollow tube? They are tingy sticks. That’s gonna be super loud.

Also, what’s keeping you from clamping down to tight and bending the tube? Is there 2 parts that sandwich the stick? Then you gotta drill titanium. Not doing that freehand.
No doubt, free hand drilling Ti would be an exercise in frustration, filled with some select words. Noise I'll have to take your word because I have no experience and I trust your opinion.

I highly, if not extremely, doubt someone could pull a rope by hand and kink titanium. It has excellent memory. Incredible how far it will bend and snap back. If it'll hold your rear end, you can't pull that tight enough to wreck the stick

Did you see the " only hunt from the ground" thread? I did misunderstand what you were saying. I still feel like it's fine. Common sense keeps you from bending that tube. Which again is pretty unlikely, to be nice

What about a squirrel step? Like what if @DanO could have a squirrel step made with a thicker L cut or even a groove to set the rope ladder system on it while also keeping it off the tree?
 
Folded and doubled over webbing would make a sufficient "standoff"....once u got 1 foot in, ur toe/instep/foot that u are standing on can control the next step. Wearing knee pads while climbing help with this....with ur linesman loaded with ur weight and a foot in an aider u can sink ur knee into the trunk and control how far off the trunk the next step is. "Standoff" is only really needed for the first initial step

I had one put on a gen 1 tethrd one stick and the plate that the cleat screws onto had enough meat to screw the cleat into. But I sent the cleat and stick to Matt and he installed and matched the grade 8 screws for the depth. This was before you could buy and install yourself. It did work great. But if you had more than one stick the cam cleat one had to be the top one or they wouldn’t stack. And if they all had cleats it would eliminate the stacking feature all together. It wasn’t very cost effective and probably wouldn’t go down that road again, but it was a fun ride.

Good lord. Assuming you also need to purchase the actual cam cleat and probably a rope mod for thicker amsteel to work with the cam cleat, it's now a $200 stick—just a single stick—before you've even thought about putting an aider of sort on it too :astonished:

A $200 stick with a bad history at that
 
On a podcast the other day, Alex from Latitude mentioned that their sticks should be releasing by ATA show and possibly even by end of the year. Not great timing for right now but at least seems like they have made progress with them even after pulling down the pre sale.
