NEW ways to lighten everything

I used Amsteel this past season for the first time, and I will likely replace at least one other item with it this year. As for the youth bows, I actually consider getting a diamond youth bow, the problem is they’re significantly slower than premium Bows. I’m already shooting under 50 pounds, so I can’t give up much more! I am likely getting the BowTech Zion, which weighs 3.3 pounds and is 335 IBO that I can live with!
2TC with Amsteel and a few Squirrel steps would save you a lot of weight.

If you don't care about the bow you shoot, a trad bow would cut 1/2 the weight, most Bear bow are 2 lbs. Also youth bow that goes up to 60-70lbs. My Mission Craze 2 is only 3ish lbs.

If you got time, preset the location you have with everything you would need. so on hunting day, you just have to walk in. I sat in the same tree for 3 days last season, I literally just left everything there over night except my bow. Next morning I just SRT up and pull my bow up with the rope.

I daisy chained the last 18ft (for a 7ft chain ) of a 45ft piece of zingit 2.2mm. That is now my throw line, pull up rope, gear hanger, rappel rope line and game hoist line. With 2 micro pulleys, alien loop, 3 #3s biners and bow hook, its all less than 6 oz and takes out 3 or 4 items.

You don't have any photos/videos of this setup do you? I'm having a hard time envisioning it all together, but I'm intrigued.

Here ya go.
The hoist is something that our very own @mtsrunner came up with. Perfect fit for this set up.

No BS, I’ve been doing it for years. Plenty of videos on how to do it.

My haul line is paracord, no tangle whatsoever. To stow it, I clip both looped ends into the S biner, fold it on top of its self and use a niteize gear tie and away it goes tangle free

So the linesman’s rope over the shoulders will keep the saddle from falling off but the back will still sag. The other annoyance is just an order of operations thing but I got it wrong often enough that I don’t miss it. I put my saddle on at the truck and then my backpack. I’ll then grab my weapon and climbing system and walk in. Once at the tree the only thing to touch the ground is my weapon. Then I start climbing. That’s usually the point where I realize my rope is under my backpack straps.
I also use a ros and that’s a couple pounds of savings.
Ounces make pounds but I won’t cut a pound if it’s going to make me uncomfortable for 4+ hours

I used this kit on a deer this season worked great. Hung the top pulley from my EDP platform set one stick high. Then use a mini hawk helium stick to spread the rear legs apart and attached the lower pulley. Work like a champ!!

Water is the big weight item for me.....I gotta take it and it heavy...no getting around it

No way to get around this for long sits. Weldabeast's is probably cold, mine is normally hot in a thermos. Solve this one, and I can take a lbs + out of my bag. I ran about 10 all day sits this year. I forgot my thermos in the truck on one of them, and it was torture to fight to continue to stay.

I can't remember who on this forum said it, but he talked about how buying lighter boots was more like a 1:5 weight savings. 1 pound lighter boot = 5 pounds of perceived weight while hiking several miles. Well this turned out to be true. I got some Danner lightweight hikers this year and man that made a huge difference on my knees and stamina in the woods. I also started running a lighter pack (Eberlestock Dagger) and dropped my heavy Binos from the mix and just carry a monocular.

i mentioned a military study here a few times, so it might've been me

if i recall, it was more extreme than what you wrote even (like shaving 1/2 pound off a single boot...1 total was like 20 pounds in a pack)

i'm running some danner ultralights as well....just don't like that they have a totally flat bottom with no heel.....that sharp angled heel digs in on slick hillsides....fell super hard in them this year

It probably was you! And yeah 1:20 makes sense. I felt like a ninja out there with lightweight boots on. Only time I didn't wear them was early season when rubber knee boots are still necessary here. Sorry about the fall. Hope it wasn't too serious.
