All this is gathered from a username.

And you folks scratch your head when I make loud noises about how the internet might be a confusing place to pick up information on how to assess risk.

Imagine what some new person thinks when they come here and have 385 acronyms thrown in their face, internet slang and hillbilly redneck grammar, and “I climb this way” or “I use this tool” all mixed together. If you think they’re better off for having learned how to climb a tree from that, or not worse off, ya might as well call me Kyler

I’m extremely appreciative that you recognize the implications of this forums discussions and that you ask us all to be considerate. It’s no small matter that what we say informs how others approach hunting, climbing, wildlife management, and potentially even legislative oversight.

Yes..the implications of this forum are you should not be safe youshould hunt from sticks ...the most dangerouse climbing system....but everybody do it...so its ok.cuz.its peer reveiwed.all the accidents dont matter.yet it could be done safely.

A few weeks ago I stepped in the middle rung of the 3 step Hangfree amsteel aider and my boot slipped on the small wet tree I was climbing. Boot went to the side, I went backwards caught by lineman’s, and I took a long step to the ground and reset.

I could have been in trouble if I’d been farther up the tree. This is why I only use a multi step aider on the lower stick. I use one step aiders on my other sticks but will sometimes skip using the aider if it feels sketch. I also rappel down because climbing down is what scares me the most.

I’m probably going to experiment with two tether climbing next year and see how that goes.

In the last several thousand steps I’ve taken on a climbing stick I have had not only zero kickouts, but near zero movement once set. Saying they are inherently dangerous is saying humanity is inherently too stupid to figure them out. I don’t personally subscribe to that.
Saying it never happened to you so its safe for every one is so unvirtuous...there i virtue signalled so people know im a holly than thouw self riechous higher class citticen whos thoughts and feelings must be obeyed..now ..on this forum 3 people died because you said that.you and Apex are elite climbers.its phycological protection to think that the Masses are as maticulously carefull as you are...dont feel bad i suffer from this too.but the facts Show lots of people get hurt.i too could use sticks without getting hurt...but why would i

My preference is to climb ropes, but I’ve got sticks and use them sometimes cause they get me where I need to be. No accidents thus far.

Automobiles are statistically the most dangerous form of transportation. And yet we all choose to take that risk all the time.
