OOAL new product (The BOB)

In the no shame thread I mentioned once that I’ve owned the RR (regular size) 3 different times now. And yes I did just sell the 3rd one again recently lol.

I just am not giving ROS a try and spent some time with the set I just got today and have to say I really like it. However I do see myself missing a platform. So it may be remind to try the RRXL since it is the middle ground between a hang on tree stand and something super small like the ROS (in my opinion anyway).

To answer your question, the cam over style of the RR is pretty cool. I would not say it’s at tight biting to the tree like a post style platform is, but it worked pretty for me on most trees. The problem I had with it is that once in a while it would want to tilt over on me if I put too much side pressure on it. I think this was mostly due to not being tight enough on the tree and seemed like trees with real thick spongy bark (like a walnut for example) it also would do this sometimes. That was always in the back of my mind and always bothered me. So that’s why I kept changing my mind, buying and then selling again.

But with the XL, I see myself likely standing on it 95% of the time, so kind of seems like I might not have that side pressure problem with that platform. That’s mainly why I’m tempted to give the XL a try. We’ll see.

This is a very accurate representation of the ridge runner. I do like the cam over action of the original platform for no stick climbing, and I don’t think that the new style will work very well for that.

The RR 2.0 will have more foot (toe) room than the original.

The 2.0 standoff adds distance behind where the o.g. bracket goes vertical. Because it's a skinnier post, feet can extend on either side and toes get more real estate. I think this is an improvement to the RR.

But, one thing I like about the XL, is there is no post to work around. You get all platform. This separates the RRxl from other XL options, where despite XL size a post can interfere with movement (turning for a shot).
Per the ooal website it says 8 x 16 day dimensions I don’t know if the standoff will add much more space behind it than the original. I just hope it bites the tree as well as the original does

idk.

as is, the standoff is off the tree a bit far so as to make me worry about stability.

A longer post with a batwing on the bottom, and maybe it's nice.

Platform climbing is still a new frontier. I think the rr2.0 could be made to work about as well as most.

Check out the facebook videos from OOAL. It's more space on an average tree for sure.

As well, it'll bite even better I bet.

But it's approaching Ambush-ish weight.

Matt really impresses me as an ideas guy, but it's hard to compete with weight savings from other manufacturing approaches. Yet, his way of doing business saves us coin too, so it's an amazing blend of ingenuity and value coming from OOAL.

I hope it bites the tree better than the original. Not that it was bad but I thought it could be improved from my experience.

The OOAL orig bracket is solid to the tree as long as you have weight down on it. I prefer not to have to stand on it for it to feel tight. I had a RRXL and had intentions to no stick climb with it, but decided to send it back. Matt had no issues with me returning it.

Did you think the XL felt solid enough just standing on it? I always thought it might be a little more grippy to the tree just because it has a little more surface area with teeth compared to the normal RR.

Sorry, realizing I’m high jacking the thread. I’ll stop here.

Yes, that design is great when your standing on it, but I like more traditional camming action that is solid before putting weight on it. I felt the same about the battlement. Maybe I didn't give them enough of a go, not sure.
I'm anxious to see what he's come up with next.

The RR2.0 has the same bracket has the Hush stand. Assuming it performs like the Hush it should be very solid. I've messed around with the Hush in my yard as a hybrid platform and it handles side pressure on par with my mission platform. The only difficulty with the bracket setup is on crooked trees. The curved nature of the top batwing makes it more difficult to level on a crooked tree than something with a straighter batwing - like is on the Mission/novix/LW products. It can be done, it just takes some getting used to.

Yep, the fact that the RR2 has basically the same teeth as the Hush is one of the things that interests me in this platform. I had the Hush for a little while. It was a nice stand and really bit the tree like crazy. I was impressed with that. If you look close at the photos of the RR2, it kinda looks like the teeth on it are a little bit different geometry than the Hush, at least the one I had. Wondering how much different, if at all that will be biting to the tree.

He's coming out with a new climbing stick that has a higher weight rating than the shikars - he had it at ATA. The tube in the picture is what his new stick is made out of. I don't recall him having it in a one stick format at ATA though.

Looking at that makes me think it would be semi-comfortable to pass your tether across your chest and sit on the UP as a hybrid “stand”. If you had deer coming in behind you that you didn’t suspect, or just to change things up from a comfort standpoint???

Also like the ability to switch out aiders easily, if need be.

I like the looks of that bottom step. Looks optimized for both 1" and Amsteel aiders. Clever.
