Confirmed with Blue Water today they will be producing about 2 dozen 24" 7mm VT prusik cords. I should hopefully have them in less than 2 weeks... Not exactly the easiest folks to deal with, but ultimately they are making good on it.

I’m a little late to this post but blue water also makes titan rope, which is 5.5 mm. It’s poly cover and dyneema core with a straight pull MB’s of 3200 lbs. you can buy it for fairly cheap and tie it into a normal prusik loop using a triple fisherman’s knot. About 44” and you can get a 12.5” finished loop that holds unbelievably well on oplux. I’ve been running it for a while now and I love it. I mean the 6mm TRC from sterling is good too but that titan cord is the bees kneesSince last year (when I purchased oplux for lb and tether), I have been going back and forth to find the best/safest friction hitch cord. I have tried oplux, 6mm trc, and now a 7mm vt prusik.
Pic shows from left
Trc in a distel = 15.5 kN mbs - knot weakness
7mm vt prusik in a distel = 22.6 kN
Jammy in a klemheist = 22 kN
Cut jammy in a distel = 22 kN - knot weakness
Initial usage of 7mm vt prusik in distel is very good. But I think that if the length was shorter, it would be ideal for 8mm rope (taking less wraps to hold tight and release easily with a tender).
I reached out to BlueWater ropes asking about custom length.
They will do that for me, but charge $30 setup charge, and adjust price per each based on length (original costs around $25). And I have to order at least 10.
I am going to do more testing this weekend and determine a length based on a good number of wraps for a distel hitch.
With that, and a price I find out next week, would anyone commit to purchasing a specific amount from me (I would not profit on this, just get the first group purchase).
I would be definitely in for 2 (maybe 4), but definitely 2.
If all goes well, maybe DanO could run with it and keep all us 8mm rope users supplied. Unless he wants to take the reigns right now.
Also Red Beard will be happy, there is no glow under a black light on the vt prusik.
Thoughts, interest, concerns, commitment?
By the way in loop configuration titan cord with a triple fisherman’s knot has a MBS of slightly over 4000 lbs!I’m a little late to this post but blue water also makes titan rope, which is 5.5 mm. Most say 55-80% of the main line for friction hitches. The exception is the Blake’s hitch which can be tied using rope of the same diameter.7mm is 87.5% of 8mm. Most sources for friction hitch safety/compatibility state the hitch line should be 60-75ish % of the mainline. I would definitely be more interested in reaching out to Sterling (6mm TRC) for the double sewn eye. Possibly Beal for the 5.5.
I understand the desire to keep the kN up there above 20, but I always have my friction hitch backed up anyway. It’s a trade off in benefits/risks for sure.

Just curious why 7mm? Strength? From what I've researched 6mm in a basket configuration is almost as strong as the Oplux itself. Plus it holds well. The 6mm cords you have been researching must be of a different construction than the BW 7mm cord, which is a single braid. The single braids tend to flatten out providing more surface area to grip, even when made of Technora. The Technora cover with a core cords don’t grab as well as polyester or nylon and require another wrap to grab reliably, but causing more friction when not needed. Another available single braid is the Resque Technologies 6mm Probe, although it and the BW cord are weaker than the cords with high tech cores and covers. Is ther

probably as strong because the policy is thin diameter and when the eye is sewn, it decreases the breaking strengths on rope that thin by about 20%. A little less so on the 10mm and thicker ropes. So if you start with 5400 lbs break strength, you end up with less than 4600 lbs once you sew that eyeIs ther

Thanks so much for taking up the torch!!! Are they all spoken for? If not, I would like to purchase some.
