Option for climbing platform

Pease don't take this the wrong way, I am no expert
It’s a tubular aluminum all bolt and river stand. It’s pretty strong. It’s not as quiet as welded platforms though.
Please don't take this the wrong way, I am no expert.
But I remember the first API treestands. They used rivets. It did not work.
You at least need welded construction, IMO.

I am no expert either, which is why I haven’t rushed into the platform or stick market. I have a basic understanding of metal work, and I feel like If done properly a bolt and rivet system is plenty strong enough (especially in extreme environments where metal expansion could potentially effect a weld) however from a weight and silence standpoint, I’d agree welds are superior. I’m not an expert either I just know in the marine industry rivets work just fine although they don’t necessarily last as long as a welded hull. @Weldabeast is way more qualified to give an opinion on bolts verses welds and when one should be used instead of the other.

Nope. I had one of those. You had to add a folding platform for archery, there was none on the regular model.

One site member (@Mr Price) uses a homemade smaller copy of the foot bar though for saddlehunting and loves it. Others have tried it stock.

I understand. My Alumacraft boat is riveted. But it is two pieces of flat metal riveted with aircraft grade rivets.
Anyway in my experience, hunting items, including clothes, were quiet above 32. Below they got loud.
So if you come up with a climbing platform and you need a field tester in cold weather, I am in KY and willing to help, I won't even charge you, LOL.

I pitched the idea. I’m gonna set a meeting with the owner at some point. It’ll be his platform and build, I’ll just be passing along input from saddle hunters! IE y’all make sure you mention realistic expectations you’d have for a climbing platform. I can’t promise he will go into production on the idea… all I can do it give him the pitch

I started climbing with 4 sticks, moved to one sticking.
Never really felt comfy with either. And I noticed, I basically was seeking out the same straight trees I used for climbing stands.

Then I found the LW platform mod.
I doubt I ever stick climb again.

Excited for the potential brewing in this thread.

I’ll take the throw away stand on the left when you are done. You better get the patent on that idea. May have something there sir.

That's actually another member's photo comparing the platform sizes, but I bought two of the DIY Ambush platforms from LWCG with intent to make a cam-climbing Ambush. Then I stopped because of a rumored purpose built climbing platform from LWCG. That didn't happen, but the rumor of a mini-climbing stand was leaked at ATA. That hasn't happened. So I hunted off my modded Sit and Climb base when straight trees with high limbs was on the menu. In quite a few ways I like it better than my .5 setup actually. If nothing happens soon, I'll probably put this project together.

This ain’t nothin new. I just got tired of reading about it. Seemed like an option that was being overlooked.

I think his “teeth” will work much like the old man’s and other thin/small/not a lot of surface area so lots of bite stands.

It might be loud as hell. That’s fine. Ship it to one of our forum resident welders.

It literally would take barren ridge five minutes to make this.

Or anyone else with basic geometry skills and the ability to weld aluminum.

It’s about 10 projects down the list for me.

I’m always interested in taking a great product and trying to improve it. I think most guys on here are very cleaver reinventing their gear. It’s fun to see what everyone can come up with. Sorry about ending that sentence with a preposltion.lol

Anyone have an action picture of the climbing treesuit?

Agreed.

In terms of specifically pairing with a JX3, I wonder if the limitation of smaller diameter trees of the BR is a natural fit? I'm always looking for thinner trees to improve the rotation ability.

I’m going on four years with the same LWHC which has worked well in my case. The light weight and packability are ideal. Anticipating that it will fail at some point I modified the top portion of my Summit Open Shot by welding on an aluminum plate for a climbing platform. I still use it as my seat when using my recurve out of the Open Shot since I haven’t figured out how to shoot a 66” recurve out of my JX 3. It’s a few pounds heavier than my LWHC and it doesn’t fold flat, but it climbs like a breeze, and is rock solid in the tree.

This seems like an excellent easy fix.

Nice work
