With the JX3, a wider foot position close to or on the sides of the tree seems most comfortable. I see climbing with an aid paired with a ROS as one way to achieve that. Or a long bar across a climbing platform that straps to the tree, something like they made to top the JX3 climbing steps.

I like everything about squirrel steps.

But I gotta be honest taking a leak off the top step of JX3 sticks a lot easier. I’m sure other sticks and platforms the same. I see no value in having more space in front of that bar for normal hunts. But if it helped climb I’d tolerate it.

I don’t like being limited by tree size, to a degree. Obviously a 7-10” tree is great. But it just seems silly for barren ridge not to do a 18” or 20” wide version

I’ve struggled to come up with a way to attach some foot pegs, (one on either side of my climbing platform) without applying back pressure to the platform resulting in it kicking loose. Until then I will keep using two Cranford Screw in steps in addition to my LWHC. I install the screw in steps on my way up the tree when I approach hunting height at the 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock positions. The steps fold up after they are screwed in place so it’s easy to pull the LWHC up past them so that the belt rests just above the steps when hunting. Makes all day sits in my JX 3 much more enjoyable.

Makes sense..I cant think of a better way for being solid. I also screw in a step or good bow hanger for my bow. I tried a tether bow hanger 3D type and If the tether loosened a little my bow about fell off the rubber hook and I use a carbon 4 lb bow! Screw it. IMO A bit more work and a pain but a piece of the rock feels good.

I started hunting with a 66” recurve this year. I McGyvered a little DIY bow hanger and proceeded to knock my bow with arrow nocked 20’ to the ground twice in two weeks. So much for my McGyver skills. Fortunately those recurves are just about bullet proof, and there were no sights to knock out of whack.
 
I have had all kinds of ideas running through my head for years on this subject. This thread is giving me some motivation to put them together.

I am not allowed to share the name of the company yet. That’s about all I can say for now other than it is highly functional and you guys are getting warmer… I’m stoked to share more but I can’t yet.

Nice being bullet proof. I am working on getting my old recurves out for next season as I’m building up my arm muscle, I injured years ago. Hunted with recurves for 25 years until injury. It’s been heavy artillery for the last 20.
I remember throwning the stick over a fence first when crossing one. Not with the compound! Lol
